This game is great, I'm having an absolute eldritch blast

TL;DR: It’s really, really good. But it will slap you silly and then some. If you prefer not using summons, you’ll probably spend more time on bosses than you would normally expect to.

Alright, let me first address the big issue everyone is complaining about: Yes, this DLC is hard. Some of the bosses are really downright not fun to fight. If you struggle with boss fights in these games, which lord knows I do too, you will struggle extra hard in this DLC. Don’t feel bad about using summons and abusing the fingerprint shield if you have to, we can’t all be pros.

HOWEVER.

This does not mean it’s unplayable or there’s no way to have fun. This DLC is incredible, definitely the best DLC content FromSoftware has ever produced. If you loved Elden Ring, you’ll love Shadow of the Erdtree. But you will struggle. It will be painfully hard at times. You may find yourself screaming at your monitor for a few boss battles. But the point of the game is to persevere through insurmountable odds, and the game is designed in such a way that it gives you the tools to do so. Use them.

Also, the weapons and armor this adds are really, really cool. Definitely worth struggling through the difficulty spikes for.

Honestly I think this game gets more criticism than it actually deserves. Don't get me wrong, every game deserves criticism, and Dark Souls II definitely has it's stinky poopoo moments that are often accompanied by a lot of weird gameplay decisions that pretty much only exist in this one game, but it also has a lot of charm that I think a lot of people ignore when they only talk about it's negatives.

All I'm saying is, if you want to enjoy your time with this game, don't watch the 2 hour long video essays about how bad this game is before you play it (but feel free to watch them after). As someone who has now played every Dark Souls game, Bloodborne, and sunk 500 hours into Elden Ring, I can honestly say Dark Souls II, in spite of its faults, is still a fun souls game that scratches the itch. Honestly, a good part of the fun is overcoming the crummier parts of the game.

And yes, I leveled Adaptability.
