Overall, I really enjoy playing this game. Over the past few years I have developed a general disinterest for most games and their respective multiplayers because it's just another Battle Royale, or a spin-off of a genre that's big at that current time. The developers, Kinetic Games, created a great experience amid COVID and the lock-downs that came with it. I'm not just playing a game with my friends, I am really able to sink into my seat and enjoy the company of my friends as we work together to try and antagonize the paranormal haunting that we're thrown up against.

Each hunt is drastically different and will be rather comical at times. I've gotten some jump scares from inopportune appearances of the ghost, or just physics shenanigans when a dead friend throws a cup to try and spook us while the remainder are continuing to hunt; with that comes the hilarious deaths as the limp body of your friend rag-dolls to the ground or even gets thrown.

Gameplay

The audio is phenomenal! Everything from running water, footsteps, lights flicking on-and-off, doors closing, the heartbeat, and the ghastly moans, all are impeccably made to immerse you and get your hair to stand on end, and your skin to crawl. The communication (radio?), both local and global (what I call them) are amazing! I don't know how they did it but it's crazy, if you don't believe me, just play a few maps utilizing the local chat and how distance and doors between rooms drowns out the audio, then go to the Asylum, even in local chat your voice can be heard distantly through the empty halls - truly haunting.
The maps are interesting and provide a good amount of diversity. The prison map (currently in BETA) introduced something that wasn't really in any of the other maps - large open rooms where the ghost can be! While in Asylum, and High-School there are some large rooms that the ghost can reside and manifest, in prison these are massive and make for a nice chase or sprint to the nearest place to hide. I can't wait to see what other maps are in development!

The Bad

The running mechanic is really odd. There's an increase in movement by like .25%, while I understand this so you can't literally sprint away from the ghost, I think a natural increase in movement speed when you see the ghost, hear the groans, or other would be interesting to experiment with, would only last ~5 seconds and couldn't happen again for 1 minute to simulate adrenaline.
Not really pertaining to me, but what a lot of my friends have pointed out to me. The Crucifix being rather confusing, many of my friends have died because they tried holding the crucifix or throwing it at a ghost mid-hunt to protect themselves - needless to say, I got a HUGE laugh out of it! I think this may be an interesting mechanic to have it work if holding it in main hand (NOT just in the tools you're carrying) or throwing it at the ghost.

Notes

In some Hunts, you will get activity almost immediately, while others you will have to explore the house and say the name of the ghost quite a lot to get any kind of indicators of where the ghost is residing. It adds a lot of diversity to your hunts and you will not have the same experience twice! You can get almost Easter Egg worthy ghost names, one that really stood out was Michael Jackson! The whole time we never said the Ghost's name and instead said things like... "hee hee", "shamone", and asked the Spirit Box "Anne are you okay!?"
