Prefacing by saying I haven't played the original. This game does what it does in the moment to moment gameplay REALLY well. The actual exploring, shooting/strategizing, soaking in the story through audio and text logs while watching your own end of the story unfold in real time while SHODAN wreaks total havoc. It's great stuff, and I can see how this was the blueprint for Bioshock (the original was, at least).
Though I have to mention I also didn't end up actually beating this game, I'm all for the lack of handholding and freedom of player expression, but I'm also the kind of player who is great at more mechanical and reflex oriented gameplay, I tend to get lost a lot without at least the occasional generous nudge towards where I should focus my attention. I'm still leaving a positive review because what I actually played (outside of wandering through everywhere I've been and could go trying to figure out how to progress) was SUPER fun and good, I just don't see myself beating this game with a total lack of guidance, especially when the path to progress is a series of very specific actions with randomized codes for entirely unrelated sectors.
If you plan to play, have a digital or physical notepad because you're setting up for an AWFUL playthrough trying to memorize everything that you think could be important or otherwise.

Kernel level anti-cheat added, completely barring Linux players from playing the game a full week after release.

Genuine 9/10, falls a slight short at the very end of the main story but easily the best game of this year so far

Extremely cool world/art design and great gameplay but the rising goop mechanic is too fast and too stressful! I enjoy taking my time to appreciate and look around the new areas I find, and to discover a climb but by the time i actually continue my climb the goo's basically made it to me! Any mistakes pretty much doom a run. Other than that the game is quite fun and i love the atmosphere

Miles better than the mobile version IMO. Amazing native Linux support

Easily the most fun shooter to release in many years.
