Sunless Sea is to me a kinda awkward game, because it lacks gameplay. The game get's carried solely carried by it's writing, which to be fair is outstandingly good. However, as I mentioned earlier, it lacks everything else. There is much to do, but everything in life is somewhere else - this applies to Sunless Sea aswell.

You'll need to spend all your money on supplies and echos just to barely make a living. If you don't want to get horribly murdered by zeamonsters you should also get some new engines, guns and maybe a whole new ship, which won't come in cheaply. Thus you're kinda forced into doing lame stuff over and over again (hello there Sphinxstone haul!) just to get a drop of joy out of this world. And once you get to a point of amassed wealth (most likely by googling a guide) and you're in a better financial position, it lacks depth on a mechanical layer. Combat feels dull and barely functional.

Yet, there still is something about this game that makes me come back to it, even though I'm not having a blast with it.
It's not terrible, it just feels like they meshed some roguelike elements with FTL and Sid Meiers Pirates, slapped some lovecraft-esque lore over it and called it a day.

Would I recommend it? Kinda, it's not worth the full price to me in retrospective, somewhere around 10€/$ is where a good spot for this game is.
