Not a bad game, absolutely not a souls-like though. This is a puzzle/exploration game with more in common with older Resident Evil games, with some basic ARPG combat and weapon/accessories.

Level designs are obtuse, with no obvious guiding principles to find your way through them, and they are often bland, flat, and very samey.

The game is also quite easy, I beat the first ~7 bosses first time with little issue.

Could have been a great game, but it has been let down by terrible performance. The touted performance improvements that they have been saying were coming since the beta have amounted to very little.

Disappointing after all the glowing reviews. There are endless reviews saying it is a return to form or back to the way it was in DW3 - DW5, but it's nothing like those games... Maybe it's the other reviews that have set my expectations incorrectly and too high, but I don't think most of the reviews even describe this game remotely well.

This feels like something stuck between the DW 3 - 5 and an ARPG. The base combat still isn't as good as it was in DW3-5, it still doesn't flow well and is more style over substance, the combo's don't flow, musuo has been relegated to an attack you might be able to use twice a mission and feels weak. They have then added in a load of "special attacks" that in older titles would just be things different characters might be able to do as part of their move set, but they don't fit with the base move set to allow you to pull off great combos that flow together.

When it comes to story, it's mediocre, on top of that it often takes a there are cut scences with the "main" character where you have dialogue options that are largely pointless. Outside of this, the have added in a lot of RPG and general modern game "features" the really add nothing of value and take away from what the main focus of the game is supposed to be massive fun battles.

I don't even think the battles feel that fun, they are generally over very quickly, there is generally no interesting interactions in the battles between characters like used to happen in the older games, and with combat feeling like it's mostly just about parrying/countering and armour breaking it feels very far from the combat of older titles in the series.

Season 1 update has ruined the game from a gunplay and performance perspective, and just turned it into COD 2.0. The only differentiator in gun fights is now rate of fire of the weapon you are using, aiming is no longer a factor. If I wanted sliding round with high rate of fire weapons I'd have bought COD, I can't recommend it until they revert the dispersion changes. I don't understand why they intentionally made changes that reduce the skill ceiling and need to aim, it actively makes the TTK/TTD shorter and more frustrating due to the smaller map sizes compared to previous games. It feels like they have just panic and tried to move away from the design philosophy that they created the game with in mind, but failed to take into account that they'd need to make changes to all the other aspects of weapons if they reduced dispersion. On top of that the game now runs 20 - 30% worse on both GPU and CPU than it did before the update, which I don't know how that's even possible.

The game is just mediocre. The first half of the game is an absolute chore to play through, and it get's slightly better in the second half. I can't recommend a game that requires 20 hours of play before it just to mediocre. I can't understand how this game has a mostly positive rating.

The game is really enjoyable, but it crashes far too often for me to recommend purchase it currently though, in around 23 hours of play it's crashed +10 times.

I picked this up because of all the positive reviews as I rather like sRPG's, but having played it for four hours I just can't agree with all the glowingly positive reviews. I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with the game, but I just don't think it has anything that makes it stand out. There are no particularly unique/outstanding aspects to the game; the combat is fairly standard, the story is the generic, there doesn't seem to be a particularly deep customisation system, the writing is fine but not exceptional, graphics style is again fine.

I understand this is done by a solo developer, and I would give a neutral review if that was possible, but to provide a more balanced review compared to those it has already received I think this is necessary to be negative.
