Not that I'm expecting a lot from a 6 year old game by the company that disrespected 2042 so badly, but there is, without fail, at least 1 person cheating in every single match I've played. Usually more. Yikes

People with bad taste in games play games that aren't this

First Impressions
--------------------------------

Meh.

-Movement is sloppy and indirect on the ground as compared to the beta experience.
-Didn't have a single game that was actually full, leading to eventually more players leaving.
-TTK is still pretty dang beefy, even if you're Dr. Headshots.
-Most of the people on my friends list played it for less than an hour before going back to other games.

Might be a bit better if those issues are fixed, but by how much?


Three Hours In
---------------------------------

SO MANY LEAVERS. SO MANY BACKFILLS. Didn't play a single match that stayed filled start to finish in well over an hour of playtime.

-Played 8 matches in a row as a backfill coming into the closing minutes of a match. Whoa.
-Hit reg at extreme range seems inconsistent .
-Certain weps seem extremely under-powered, others shred.
-Just like in beta, full H teams are nearly unstoppable to the average player.


Five Hours In
----------------------------------

-Balance issues are a bit glaring. If you're able to establish a firm meta in the first 24 hours of a game, the op things are too obvious to the average player.
-Like most team based objective focused games in the last handful of years, the experience really falls flat in the PUG setting. Get a dedicated team or get out, which brings me to my final point...
-If the matchmaking system is struggling this hard to find and fill matches with 40k active players, how accurate can any MMR/ELO system really be in the first place?


Overall, this is a solid avoid for the time being. With some balance and tweaks, could be a bit more fun, but in 5 hours I feel like I've experienced just about the full scope of what this game has to offer. I suppose for the low cost of Free-fiddy, 5 hours isn't so bad.

-Alt F4 does nothing
-Professional soldiers have shot groupings that would make a boy scout laugh

Did the devs bot-bomb the reviews to make this seem good? There's no way this many people think this game is good.

Is it pretty good? Sure
Is it 30 bucks good? Hard no.
Fun with friends/frenemies? Sure.

Priced themselves out of a way higher initial player count by about $10. After 10 raids, only 10%-15% of characters you see are actual players, which highlights both the extreme AI deficiencies and the devs missed expectations for player base. With hype trains moving from station to station so quickly these days, it's important to get your EA release strategy right because it's extremely rare for a player count to go beyond what the EA release hits. Using recent examples (eg. Valheim, V Rising, Tribes of Midgard), after 3 months ~20% of the launch player count is maintained. Beyond that, the average drops further to ~10%. With only about 12k player peak, that puts this game at a little over 1,000 remaining players in just 5 months.

Yikes, that's a scary projection for a game that relies so heavily on PvP. Let's hope this wasn't a long-term fatal mistake. Still a thumbs up for me because I love shooting my friends in the face and acting like it wasn't on purpose.

Inside of the first 3 minutes I was asked to kill my dog. ♥♥♥♥ that and ♥♥♥♥ any game that does that.

I just want to say I REALLY enjoyed the hidden Nausicaa reference. Thumbs up when you find it.

Experienced 2 game breaking bugs that corrupted my world with a 'subzone corrupt' message and had to restart my world completely from scratch both times. I understand that this is early access, so my friend and I will be refunding for now and probably checking progress in another 6 months or so. It definitely seems to have some promise. If they can get the bugs ironed out, it should be a lot of fun.

The water is so pwetty.

Regardless, after putting our time into this and getting slapped all the way back to start twice, it definitely left sand in our shorts.
