Runs like old garbage.

Crashes constantly riiiight when you're about to finish the hunt.

Controls are a complete mess.
It's very clearly designed for controller only. There is very little consistency in what buttons shuffle menus, and played half the campaign not being told i could, or what button to block with. Bar googling it, I got no idea if there are other special attacks than the one i found, because they aren't listed anywhere except extremely shortly mid weapon swing?!?

Everything is hidden in menus, and to top it off, nothing is explained.
Eksample: You waste 20 minutes to battle a monster, failed, you need to catch it. Ok, spend time crafting a trap, 20 minutes to do him in again, just go have the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ npc tell you that you need some paralying bombs? Find the trap? no you apparently crafted that to your OTHER bag. Spend another 20 minutes, you got about 5 seconds to scroll through some ♥♥♥♥ menu to find the paralyzing bomb, just to miss your window. Simply bad.

Right now, I'd not recommend it.

I spent an hour in the menu to try and get it running decently, only to discover its spin city. I've never played a sim that was so impossible to get a clean lap in. Setting my fuel in the menu was probably one of the most infuriating things i've had the displeasure of experiencing in modern gaming.

Maybe im out of shape, but I did not enjoy it at all.

Fanatec GT DD support is extremely bad. Camera will spin endlessly untill you bind some buttons (wheel axis etc) and even then, it resets the settings all the time, or just spins the camera anyway.

When you've spent a few hours getting SOMETHING set up, you finally get to "drive" and feel the game, and its.. oh so bad. The engine sounds are either bugged or some of the worst i've ever heard.

Title is misleading, it's more like "spend hours driving extremely slow though mud because your garage is apparently situated in the middle of a swamp and the truck you bought for starters has slick road tires for some reason" simulator.

Barely a benchmark as of now. Gives an arbitrary number that relates to nothing. Its an RT+particle benchmark at best, and you can just use port royal if you want to measure RT. I dunno if i feel like the "8k textures and cinematic quality assets" does anything at all.

Needs a lot of work and optimization before its any good. Seems like they just set all settings to ultra no matter if it makes sense or not. Like the motion blur. you can see particles (from the phoenix) stay for a long time after they stop glowing.
If you look under the water, you see strange patterns that make no sense. Given the fact you cant see them in the scenes, and they would not appear at such low light levels IRL, I'd say remove them. Except where the sun rays strike perhaps.

Its good. Kinda arcady feel without it actually being an arcade game. Perhaps the traction control is just really good?

Its good for square that this is non refundable, caus holy f**k. I havent even been able to log in yet here on my second day of trying. Launcher is the worst garbage i've tried ever. It does not play well with steam overlay. Actually nothing at square seems to play well with steam, there is no integration at all.

You can login to your aparently 8 year old account you forgot about which is linked with steam (a like that mind you, does nothing but log you in), and see you already got "a realm reborn" there. After you just payed for it. Great you think, ill just play on that then. But no, you cant reset your password, so you can login in launcher, because that require you to remember your 8 year old password. Good luck with that. You cant recover said password, or reset it, because it just sends you an email that says "login with steam". Still havent got that old password you need to change to a new one. And good luck with trying some old passwords, caus you get locked out of the account for 30 minutes after 2 attempts.

Their whole account system is COMPLETELY borked. Seperate accounts for like 3 different yet related things. And the account you create through the launcher? Might not work, who knows.

No game is worth this much headache. STAY AWAY.

Update: Finally just reset my password (for my new account, not the old one thats linked to steam). Now it says I haven't got the product or a subscription when I try and login, even though its CLEARLY there in the moog station. My conclusion is the same. DO NOT risk this headache. Who knows how they handle money and subscriptions if this is their setup.

Update 2: Restarted my pc and I can finally login. I'm leaving the review as is, because it's the worst and most complicated ♥♥♥♥ i've dealt with in a long time, and thats coming from a software dev.. i've seen some sh*tty stuff, this is one of em.

find someone who have not played it before to start playing with, or it will be extremely boring, being told what to do, or everything being done by others.

this game will consume you, and you will sit there and play it untill you realise its 5am, your back has given out, your legs and ass are sleeping and the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ biters just launched a new attack at your iron ore.. you cant leave now!

As a new player: You made it to the first town, that was easy. Then you look at the talent tree, that seems hard, but ok. By act 3 you got no idea what you are doing and everything is impossibly hard. Skills everywhere. Too many to remember. Skill tree? dafuq? Google build, flicker CoC looks kewl, whatever that means. Follow guilde with lvling tips, all goes well. Get to last act, time to gear up. Look at gear prices. Run white maps for the rest of that season. But fudge, next season you are gonna kill it for sure! Splode whole screens, instagib bosses. Gonna be sweet.

I doubt this game will ever leave its early access state, as its been 5 years now. Fundamentals like multiplayer stability and server creation should have been fixed years ago. Been trying to play this with friends a few times over the years, and its never really worked. We always stopped because our creations where destroyed by lag (sudden kamikaze acceleration into an asteroid or random stuff exploding)

Update 30-03-2020:
This review has stood the test of time, and is still relevant. Your ships will still stop working for no reason (no thrusters work), get a desync/rubberband bug with the server, so its stuck in a mineshaft somewhere. Im not sure I dare spend time making anything with pistons just yet.
But whats to be expected? Those bugs can only be tracked like 4-6 years back in time :D
