I grew up playing super mario brothers on the nintendo entertainment system. I played many other bright and colorful platformers over the course of my childhood but once I reached adulthood almost no one was making these kinds of games anymore. It was just Call of Duty and Fallout 3, good games but also good examples of the "gritty realism" so prevelent in todays AAA games.
Rayman Origins is surely the greatest evolution the platforming genre has seen since Mario Bros. The 2d graphics are amazing. High resolution, beautfilly animated, joyously designed. The game is a visual feast.
The gameplay is simple yet deep. You can learn to play in five minutes but it will take months to master. Controls are precise, moves are varied, this is approaching the height of platforming game design. If you liked Super Meat Boy, you will love this game. If you are sick of all the "gritty realism" in games today, you will love this game. And if you are just a fan of well made video games you will lov

...e this game. Its Ubisoft, I know, I know, but they say they are getting rid of the online only DRM, and this game is worth the purchase.
