Fun game, very difficult with an incredibly steep learning curve. But it's never been frustrating, it's always challenging me to think hard and work smarter.

I think I can safely say, somehow, Larian Studios outdid themselves. It's kinda like watching Apple best their previous high end phone spec, and then looking at the current Snapdragon lineup. Larian is over here massively innovating and challenging themselves, always making something new and great. Meanwhile, everyone else is content with their mtx garbage and selling incomplete, no functional, and frankly unenjoyable games. It's like watching an adult beat a toddler in a foot race, it's just... not even enjoyable to watch the sport at that point. The competition, ie, every single dev studio and publisher, needs to get a damn grip and pay close attention, the race started and Larian is leagues ahead of the competition.

Great gameplay, in its vanilla state, level 1-4 is like a survival horror game.

Great artwork, it's a genuinely beautiful game.

Heart stopping music. Borislov Slavov did it again, no surprise.

Great VA work. The VA team, both main characters and npcs, are just fantastic.

Great story, really draws you in and gives you freedom while still having a structure to guide you.

Great game. Very well made. Looks beautiful. Just wish it support mods. The game isn't supported anymore, but I know for a fact the community would go nuts for mod support.

I spend more time downloading, installing, and troubleshooting my 900+ mods then actually playing the game.

A+

Best game of all time. Larian Studios shows their love for their craft and their care for their fans with each game, each update, each patch, each DLC, every added bit of content, and even in the ways they communicate with the public.

But as for DOS:2, holy crap. I played the beta, put about 50 hours into that, and that was an incomplete version of just the first act. I've got nearly 800 hours of playtime now. I think I've beaten the game maybe twice? There is just so much to do, so many options, so many choices to make, and I am certain I still haven't found it all.

Beautiful graphics, can play on absolute potatoes (runs at 720p low/medium on a Ryzen 3 3200U, iGPU only).

Immersive world that just drags you in, every character feels purposeful and written with intent, both PCs and NPCs.

Everything is voice acted? WHAT?!?!?! Just nuts.

Insanely moddable. Maybe not as crazy of changes as like TES, but tons of mods available, with support given to the modders to help make it easier to produce new content.

The music is phenomenal. I bought the vinyl of the soundtrack and would listen to it all the time, its just glorious (thank God for Borislav Slavov, what a gift to this world).

Gameplay is incredible, and modifiable to fit your style.

Infinite choices. I'm pretty sure at least. I swear this game is intelligently generating new interactions and storylines each time I play.

This game is worth 4x the base amount. I'd happily pay for it again.

Absolutely riddled with hackers. As of posting this, the game is genuinely unplayable. This isn't rhetoric or hyperbole, every single server I joined, and there aren't many left these days, has either an in-game hacker who racks up 100+ kills without ever dying... or the newest things is a "Redeploy" Hacker. Basically a person not actually in the game, but forcibly redeploying everybody in the server. You spawn in, walk around for maybe 20 seconds, then drop dead, being told you "Redeployed". You never make it far. They continue doing this until everyone has left from the server.

It's a good game. Not a great game.

For starters, I enjoyed the story. I haven't played a Star Ocean game since 1+2 on my PSP. I loved everything about those games. I tried playing, I think The Last Hope, a few years back, but deleted it almost instantly. Just rubbed me the wrong way.

This game is good. The gameplay is fun, albeit very very easy. The story is enjoyable, but not entirely succinct, as if the writers forgot what their goal was halfway through, and struggled to bring it back to its finale. Crafting and menu/shops are infuriating just as much as they were in the first two games. Upgrading your characters, be it armor/weapons/accessories, their combat skills, or even just crafting skills, is infuriatingly grindy.

Cutscenes are incredibly drawn out, and the characters make some of the goofiest gestures ever. Just doesn't make sense (See: Ray giving a random thumbs up in the middle of a conversation).

Oh, and it looks like it was made in 2011 by a partially blind person. Already seeing fanart in black and white that looks high resolution than some of the character models.

Its a quirky game, made by quirky people, in the legacy of a quirky series, played by quirky people. It definitely fits the bills for 'niche'.

Here are its real problems: IT RUNS LIKE A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ POTATO.

Let me list the technical issues with game, and for good note, I have a 3070TI, 5600x, 32gb of RAM, and a 3440x1440p 144hz monitor. I expect and plan to use it.

-Set to "Prioritize Framerate", all quality settings set to "Normal", HDR off, Vsync off, and FPS set to 60, It stutters SO MUCH. Yes, I get it, its an ultrawide. But it struggles even reaching 60fps. That is wildly unacceptable.

-WHY IS IT CAPPED TO 60 IS THIS 2001 AND I'M PLAYING HALO CE AGAIN?!!?!?! That is just unacceptable. I have a high refresh rate monitor and (theoretically) the hardware to push it to it's limits. The fact that in 2022 Square Enix is using the framerate to help drive game mechanics (Or at least I have to assume that is why) is baffling to me. I guess they were just playing to much Skyrim and thought people like being limited to 60fps as if we play on a console?

-no true Ultra-Wide support. had to set the game to 3840x2160 (16:9 4k). It then stretched and compressed to fill the screen.

-You can't quit the game from the menu. you have to leave to the title, enter into the game menu, then quit. stupid.

I still recommend the game though. I had a lot of fun and the characters were quite enjoyable, and the combat was a lot of fun.

You've always been there for me Terraria. On my PC, on my phone, when I taught my little brother how to play video games on the Xbox... I won't forget you.
