This game nearly made me miss the deadline of 3 pieces of college coursework.

Who needs education when you can have xcom.

Hmmmm, where do I start.

Tomb Raider is essentially a restart of the Tomb Raider series based on the game Tomb Raider that was made about 15 or so years ago (blimey that's alot of Tomb Raiding)!

Firstly, the gameplay: Tomb Raider is essentially an Uncharted-them-up (cover shooting and climbing with some basic puzzles), alot of the puzzles are easy, if you have an ounce of common sense and one functioning eye the puzzles should be a relative breeze for you. The shooting is very well done, enemies react to where they're shot; clip them in the leg and they fall over, shoot them in the head and they fall over, quicker. Oh, and theres QTE's, I hate the QTE's, seriously breaks immersion when you're running, then some dirty hobo tries to rip your leg off and you have to have a siezure as you try and hit the F key and end up hitting the wrong key and the result beings Lara's head being pancaked by a rock. There's also weapon upgrades which are nice and noticeable, not amazing and ground breaking, just very nice.

Next, the story: Tomb Raider's plot is good, interesting and keeps you playing on, revolving around Lara Croft running around, shooting baddies (although, in cutscenes, she's allergic to guns apparently because she only shoots twice in them), solving puzzles and trying to get off the island (not going to spoil it). Theres also a bunch of spiritual stuff that is, albeit interesting, seems monkey wrenched in at times and has to spoonfed to you (and me) at times. Theres also a metric tonne of plot twists and psuedo emotional moments (psuedo because I don't care about half the people that die, seriously, I just hacked some dude to death with a pickaxe and now your crying because you gotta shoot someone, com'on Lara!)

Then, the graphics: It looks nice, the water and the dirt and the trees and stuff looks good, nice textures and good animations ties into the graphics looking nice. All around goodness in the graphics departement.

Finally, the AI: The only thing i don't like about the game is the AI, enemies fight well, don't get me wrong, but if you're going to charge me and I point a pistol at you, I suggest you move it or start praying (the machete enemies are awful, they go down in a few shots and disregard cover). However, the AI does get better on harder difficulties and would reccomend playing on the medium or harder difficulties for a better AI.

Oh and just rushing through the story the game was about 8 hours on the mode above the easiest, I also wents back and played 2 hours of it on a harder difficulty and to experiment with weapon upgrades,

Overall:

Pro's:
Combats good
Plots pretty alright
Graphics are nice
Weapon Upgrades

Con's:
Dem QTE's tho...
AI can be a bit shabby at times.
Lara goes from depressed to a psychopath in about a femtosecond.

The game could be improved if there was a bigger element of survival, theres actually no reason to get food other than to get some XP. After the tutorial hunting mission I never hunted for deer again as I got like twice the XP from killing dudes than from shooting bambi with a bow and arrow.

If you like tomb raider, uncharted series or Lara Croft, then buy this game, if not, then wait for the next one, I personally like the game, but dislike features within it (seriesously why QTE's this isn't Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy XD).
