Great game with friends. Friendly AI is definitely still very inconsistent. You either get Seal Team 6 or the Super Troopers.

TLDR- The game has extremly fluid combat with rewarding mechanics like Focus Strikes, and a surprisingly enjoyable story paired with solid voice acting. The new Artisan Crafting system adds depth to loadout customization, and armor design remains stylish for fashion hunters. However, performance issues persist, with things such as textures failing to load, frame rate drops, and crashes. Multiplayer still suffers from frequent disconnections and connection failures despite patches. The game is easier than past entries with tracking is overly simplified and early-game restrictions can be frustrating.

Positives:

Game Fluidity- The gameplay just feels super fluid. They did a good job with making the combat very seamless by ironing out some of the move animations and including things like clashes as rewards for perfect timings. Focus strikes (while controversial) are actually somethings that I enjoyed. It felt like a reward for dealing enough damage at a spot and made it feel like I was actually progressing in damaging the monster.

Story- I know one of the jokes of monster hunter is that the story is really just a bonus to the game, but I actually found the story to be quite pleasant. Yeah it was kind of a basic story, but that's all Monster Hunter really needs. Voice actors were really good, there was some character growth, and it did add to the feel that you were this person trying to help and protect the surrounding villages.

Artisan Crafting- A new addition to Monster Hunter (at least from what I remember from Tri and up), it is nice to see another layer of making loadouts more personalized. For those that may not know, Artisan Weapon Crafting is a system in High Rank that allows you to gather weapon parts with different elements and status effects from Tempered Monsters and forge them to create weapons with no flaws ( that are upgradeable as well).

Armor- Fashion hunters are still gonna have fun.

Negatives:

Performance- Performance is still an issue at the time of this review update (3/13/2025). Textures still won't load in or take forever too, they're replaced by polygons, or simply disappear after a while. Frame-times are horrendous and Graphic settings will reset to earlier selections which seems to cause an inevitable crash. I personally have also seen the game report GPU usage that completely contradicts what several other monitors are reporting.
Capcom really needs to sort these performance issues out. Thankfully, updates (both drivers and game) seem to be making the game more stable, but the underlying issues are still prevalent.

Multiplayer- Now credit where credit is due, the recent patch seems to have fixed several bugs with online multiplayer. However, general server issues are still prevalent with the game dropping me out of servers mid hunt or just refusing to connect to servers due to various error codes. Now, I am willing to cut a bit of slack given how massive this game has been in terms of sales and that MAYBE they weren't expecting THIS many people, but 2 weeks in and nothing has been really done.

Nitpicks:

Game Difficulty- This is something I hope to see increase with future updates and things like G-Rank. The game itself is WAY easier than previous titles, however there is still enough challenge for newer players (in theory). Veterans though will make short work of the game though, especially with systems like Focus Strikes.

Tracking- Others may disagree, but I actually liked the tracking system from World from an immersion standpoint. It made it so that I was rewarded for actively hunting a monster with things like increase the effectiveness of the scoutflies. Here, it's more like The Guild got the American Defense Budget and placed UAVs in the sky at all times just casually telling you where everything is.

Early Game Hunting- While you're still going through the early story, there are several parts where the game basically refuses to let you go into the world and just farm for better equipment. From a story perspective I guess it makes sense, but I certainly found it annoying to basically be snatched back when trying to wander off and farm.

Constant Crashes prevent me from even completing a match.

EDIT:

The constant crashes appeared to be an issue with DirectX 12. The issue did have a workaround, however, the fact that it involved several dives into forums to find certainly didn't help with the overall experience. After playing the game, I would put it as very mediocre; there are some great aspects, such as the destruction, but there are also some bad aspects, such as the recoil system.

Early Access Review
I would not rate this game simply No. I feel like when it's fun, I enjoy it. I especially enjoy it as a VR alternative to Tarkov. However, the sheer number of bugs and issues that can pop up at times make this game hard to recommend in its current state. From sounds not appearing, to collisions not making sense, to items not spawning in. Even in the bunker there are issues with putting items away or mounting them on the wall. While some of these are not the end of the world (items that disappear in the bunker can be reclaimed in the trade kiosk), they certainly can be frustrating. On of the newer bugs appeared with the most recent Hotfix (0.6.44)where you cannot matchmake and are forced to restart the game until matchmaking fixes itself. All in all, I'll likely still play it with friends and monitor it, and I understand that it is still a beta and that there are things that have been announced that will eventually be added to the game; it's current state is just hard to recommend to others looking for a VR title to add to their library.

TLDR: Used to play this game, however aggressive micro transactions and requirement to use "Tokens" to play ruin any positives it may have.

Became a fan of this game years ago as a freshman in high school. Spent many nights in custom games with friends duking it out. While the game fundamentals itself haven't changed, there are some things that help make this game fun, and others that are a detriment to it.

Pros:
-Simple and engaging gameplay loop
- Nice visuals and animation
Cons:
-Aggressive Micro transactions
-Requirement of "Tokens" to play

One of the best, of not the best Zombie game of all time. It got everything right, the parkour, the story, the horror. I have never crapped my pants at 2 am except for playing this game during the night cycle and turning around to see a big, brolly volatile named Requis that's ready for poundtown and some sweet survivor booty to meet. Would highly recommend getting the sequel DLC The Following as well.
