It's Factorio, but 3D. If you like factory/base building games you're almost certainly going to like this one. Now with even more quality of life features in 1.0!

I used to be an explorer like you. Then I took a terramorph to the knee.

Starfield feels a lot like Skyrim but set in a NASA-punk future. If you like Bethesda games you'll almost certainly love this one too. Starfield does not do much hand-holding, so be sure to look up tips and tricks. The game is enormous, so it took a good 5+ hours before I was solidly hooked into the game. Starfield represents iterative improvement upon the tried and true Bethesda game formula, and it definitely works for me.

Update: After getting all the achievements I still think Starfield is a great game. As with many over-hyped games I think people were let down when it didn't live up to their expectations, but I think Starfield is a great first step for this franchise and I can't wait to see what's next for new content.

The factory must grow.

If you like factory/automation games you'll probably like this game too. Now made even better with a free 2.0 update and (very worthwhile) expansion.

Perfect, the kids are finally asleep and I can play games for a couple of hours. Except you can't, because the Rockstar launcher is encountering technical difficulties and can't validate the SINGLE PLAYER game. I don't care how good the game is; if I can't play it that's on the developers.

Dwarf Fortress is an excellent colony management game with a longstanding history demonstrating how committed the devs are to this game. If you enjoy games like Rimworld or Prison Architect but wish it was a little more complicated then consider checking out Dwarf Fortress.

Bonelab improves on the core success of Boneworks, even if the story isn't as fleshed out. It's still a great experience if you can stomach the motion sickness.

Spiritfarer is a fun and casual game which forces you to contemplate death and how we all face it different. It tries to strike the balance between exploring the map and grinding/fetching to unlock the next area. I felt that it was a little heavy on the grinding early-game but that became less of an issue as the game progressed. Story-wise, the characters implemented in the first half of the game were more appealing and interesting compared to the characters added later. I'd recommend it, especially if you're still working through the death of a family member or friend.

I think Halo is a pretty cool guy. Eh kills aliens and doesn't afraid of anything.

Hades has all the great characteristics of a great rogue-like dungeon crawler. Great weapons that play differently but seem fair, a progressive upgrade system that boosts you at just the right pace, enemies that are challenging until you master exploiting their weaknesses, and great bosses. But the cherry on top is the compelling narrative that keeps you coming back time after time even though you've cleared the dungeon. This is the true differentiator compared to other greats like Dead Cells or Risk of Rain. Add on top a brilliant soundtrack and you have my pick for 2020 Game of the Year.

Metro Exodus manages to feel much like the previous metro games despite the drastic change in scenery. It makes incremental improvements on the combat and gameplay mechanics and has great visuals, especially with ray tracing enabled. Definitely worth a play-through!
