Its not bad its just.....not good either. The gameplay is fine. The story is fine. The dialogue flips between fantasy and cringe millennial. Theres points where its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ metal and awesome then someone talks and you just roll your eyes. Its unfortunate.

Maybe its your thing, just not mine.

Great return to form by Dice! Best launch they've ever had in my memory. Skip the campaign though, its cringe and feels written by AI. PrOtEcT tHe SeRvErS.

Multiplayer is phenomenal though

Minor gripes:
Do we really need a forced tutorial in 2025 teaching us how to run, mantle, shoot, and all that? Its so unnecessary. Especially a forced one. Just....why?

Hub is bad. I dont like it. It slows down the time between missions for no reason whatsoever. It looks cool but it adds nothing outside that. I'd rather hop into server browser and just go again rather than have to spawn in, run around and do things rather than click menus.

Major (at least to me) Gripes:
This game launched with 5 or 6 classes. KF2 had 8. And so many weapons in KF2. In this one, at least at the beginning, each class has 3 guns with 2 upgraded types each above the base gun for a total of 9 guns. Again, only 3 of those being unique.

Weapons all feel....meh. Shooting feels fine. Melee feels fine. FIne isnt great for a game that is fully centered around that being fun. They just dont feel impactful. I can't put my finger on why.

The roadmap is laughable. They tout adding features they dont have yet such as "Text Chat". Season 3 they'll be adding a character who was already in KF2. Season 4 (a full year from release) will be the first subclass they add which is Gunslinger, one that was in KF2. One of the maps from the roadmap (I believe Season 2) appears to be a reskin of a KF2 map. Cant confirm but to me it looks that way.

This is an embarrassment. It'll probably be great in 2 years.

Good:
The game looks so good. The gore is great. The music is great too. The game has the structure and bones of a good KF game, but is falling short for me right now.

In short my answer is: I don’t recommend it yet.

This game is going to be great eventually but it’s missing some important stuff. Some of this could be dismissed as “get good” but it’s stuff rocket league has.

1. Ball tracking is baaad on MK and controller. Needs a lock on ability or something. Something Rocket League has.
2. Control remapping is way too limited. I should be able to map my mouse thumb buttons to something in the With Ball state and Without Ball states and cant.
3. How is a game called "REMATCH" launching without a feature to request a rematch? Seems pretty obvious.
4. Needs an offline/against bots mode.

On the last point, I do not want to have to practice in a public match. That isnt fair to people in my opinion on either side. People who've been playing since the beta getting matched with people like me still trying to learn controls is not cool. I want to play offline for a bit before I play online.

Another review summed up the rest of the game very well in saying it looks like an early launched Free to play game with the amount of content in it. It’s so barebones on customization it’s laughable.

As I said, this will be good eventually. But it’s not worth the price tag as of launch day.

EDIT::
I am actually refunding this for now. The more I've thought about it, the more angry I am at the blatant lack of customization options available in the base game without having to pay more money. This is not a $30 game and the monetization shop at launch has more things to buy than the base game offers you out the gate. I'll buy when it eventually gets discount $10-15 off but this is not a $30 game at the moment.

Didn't get past the tutorial. I hate tutorials that go over the baby basics and take 10 years to get through.

I'm sure this game will be great once it's playable. Opening sequence of scripted scenes varies between 20 fps and 90 fps on high with a 3080, 5700x, and 32gb ram on a m.2. No excuse for this. Once combat starts, it chugs along at a solid 30 fps with dips into 15 territory. Don't buy for 3 months till they fix it and it's discounted.
