It's incredibly fun, WHEN IT WORKS. It's a buggy piece of ♥♥♥♥ right now.

I've had it completely crash on me once, and had it start hitching and locking up which resulted in me getting killed, had to restart the game to get it to stop.

Dying Light is incredibly fun. It easily could have been a contender for GOTY 2014 had it come out last 2014. Beautiful graphics, exciting gameplay, rewarding parkour system. This is everything that I had wanted Dead Island to be, even without the parkour element. Everything about this game screams polish and you can clearly see the amount of thought and detail that went into every crevice of this game.

They've taken interesting ideas from other games including Farcry, Mirror's Edge, Assassin's Creed, etc and spun them all into an amazing story-driven Zombie Survival game.

The zombies work as they should, with many different varities for you to avoid or hunt. Some are slow and stupid, while other freshly infected are fast, smart, and climb just as well as you can. There are also zombies that spit acid bombs, suicidal fat zombies that run at you and explode into blood and guts for crazy damage. There are even giant zombies with armor and sledgehammer type weapons that are more difficult to take down.

The guns in this game work MUCH better when compared to the original Dead Island series, they actually feel and sound like guns, are very accurate depending on the type of gun you are wielding. But they also don't feel overpowered, because the noise attracts the fast running zombies if you continue to fire them off and it becomes very easy to become overwhelmed by hordes if you dont play smart.

About mid-way through the game the story gets CRAZY and intense. I won't post any spoilers, but when you transition areas from The Slums to Sector 0, it becomes almost an entirely new game and reinvigorates the atmosphere with beautiful scenery and even more parkour fun. Rooftop to rooftop, sliding and jumping whilst dodging or killing zombies and humans with guns. It's insanely entertaining.

There is also a ♥♥♥♥ ton of gathering/crafting to be done in this game.. From crazy modified weapons, to medkits and molotovs, DIY grenades, flares, firecrackers and thrown weapons like knives, axes, etc. The list goes on and on. You have to find the blueprints either through quests or hidden around the world to create some of the better and more satisfying weapons in the game.

+ Immersive Graphics
+ Exciting Gameplay/Crafting
+ Smooth Movement and Parkour
+ Interesting story/sidequests, the characters have tons of personality
+ The atmosphere of the game is dark and gritty, easy to get lost in
+ Fluid Combat System
+ Lots of Gore
+ Tons of hidden areas to explore
+ Not a buggy mess like Dead Island was
+ New Game Plus

- Flares are a little OP
- All of the best gear is sold at the merchants
- Some people are having trouble getting decent framerates, depending on hardware
- Day/Night Cycle can be controlled by certain storyline and quests, not always entirely dynamic. (This is only true for early game)

I'm hearing a few complaints about poor optimization, but I'm not seeing that at all, personally. I get about 100 FPS indoors and 60-80 FPS outdoors, with everything Maxed at 1080.

My Rig:
i7-3820 3.6GHz
EVGA GTX 980
16GB RAM

TL;DR - This game is what you wanted Dead Island to be. If you enjoy survival zombie games mixed with parkour and amazing storyline, you will love this game. An easy purchase, even at full price.

This is an incredibly horrible port. Expect for the game to look incredibly bland and gray, and run at about 30 FPS, regardless of how high-end your system is. There are mods and tweaks out there that can make the game "barely playable" including using SweetFX to make the game a tad bit more colorful.

But overall, unless you're seriously jonesing for a nostalgia trip, I can't recommend this game. You're better off playing Saint's Row The Third or Saint's Row IV. There was absolutely no care taken in the creation of this port, nor did it age very well graphically.

DmC has easily become one of my favorite games of all-time. Despite the opinion of the naysayers that appear to be stuck in their roots and decided to hate on the game because it wasn't an exact replica of the older games in the series.. DmC has a ton of personality, charm, and atmosphere.

The combat system isn't as in depth as previous games, but the combat remains satisfying and rewarding, nonetheless. The difficulty IS there, if you decide to play on some of the harder modes.

As far as Dante's new look, I'm happy with it. It brings a fresh new perspective to what Dante would have looked like back in his younger origin years. With older Dante's personality, I don't have a hard time "believing" this representation of him. Also, the idea that the stronger his powers become, the whiter his hair starts to turn, makes sense in the longrun and sets up the previous games.

The story leaves a bit to be desired, but it felt fresh and new and it didn't keep me from having a good time during my playthrough.

I think people are just so stuck in the past and can't handle change of any kind when it comes to their favorite franchises, which is a shame, because it only holds them back from an otherwise enjoyable experience.

As a huge fan of the franchise myself, and having played all previous games, I came into this game with an open-mind and was pleasantly surprised, considering all the negative opinions I had heard prior to playing DmC.

It's saddening that the game wasn't better received, otherwise we probably would have ended up with an interesting sequel in which to build upon the origin story and characters. I honestly feel that if this game had been marketed as another title altogether, fans of the series wouldn't have judged and dismissed so quickly.

tld;r All in all, despite the closed-minded fans of the franchise, this game is incredibly enjoyable and I highly recommend it for anyone that enjoys the hack-n-slash action genre.

Wasn't my cup of tea. Doesn't feel like much variety in the levels because of the fog. Probably more fun with friends, but I found the game to be boring if you play alone with randoms.
