It is not a fun game, but it does have fun moments.

However, Gaijin seems desperate to increase the time between those fun moments.

Play it for 40 hours, then move on. I implore you.

Prey, the game about the complexities of the human mind, our decisions and what we’re forced to face because of them, and introducing aliens to the business end of a shotgun.

so, this is to be my first time reviewing a game on steam, and man, its a good one.

i hadn't played any RPGs before this one (unless you count the pokemon ranger games) and i went into it not knowing what to expect. fortunately, i noticed the free demo as i was about to click off and thought: "hey, what the heck, i'll give this a go."

from then on, as soon as it booted up the title screen, i was hooked. the combat feels really great and the dodging is just as offensive as it is defensive, allowing you to pull off range-melee-special (in that order) combos and do massive damage in seconds.

after i finished the demo (if you're unsure go play that) i immediately bought the full game, even though it isnt finished. i didn't care, the combat was so good, there is light bits of humour every now and then too, the characters were lovable, the story was better than i thought and i rarely play games for story (thats a lie, i own "to the moon"), and the world was awesome. now, the story goes (dont worry i aint spoiling anything) that you are a girl called lea who has been hacked into this mmo to try and get your memory back, now while it isnt an mmo, i remember myself constantly thinking: "if this was an mmo, i would play the heck out of it," because the world was really well designed. now as you travel through this world you meet new characters, the main side-character is called emilie and she accompanies you mostly throughout your journey in your party (yes there is a party system, i heard those are pretty common in RPGs), but whether she is or isnt available depends on if she's online, MORE WORLD BUILDING which is really cool cause it makes you feel like you're playing an actual MMO.

the sidequests are mostly pretty good and save you from grinding if you do them before you over level and the amount of exp you get from them becomes negligible. the dungeons are well designed and the bosses look and feel cool. especially the first one which is just the "hit the enemy crab in its weak spot for massive damage" https://youtu.be/kF8POaO-9TY?t=135

in conclusion, whether you're going in for the story, the characters, the awesome combat or just because the art style looks nice, i would highly recommend this game and even more so when it comes out of early-access. it has introduced me to the world of RPGs and you can be sure i'll be looking out for more in the future.
