Amnesia: The dark descent. Mother of all horror games. Frictional Games' decision to develop an absolute trendsetter, where your in-game sanity and health are almost as precious as in real life, was definitely the right one. I believe it's right to say that Amnesia was one of the reasons horror games became so popular, and nowadays Amnesia is a timeless classic. Whenever I'm confronted with the question: "Which horror game should I play?" Amnesia is the first game that comes to my mind. It saddens me that so many people have no clue what Amnesia is. "What the heck is Amnesia?"- the words that make me lose faith in humanity.


"Don't forget... some things mustn't be forgotten. The shadow hunting me... I must hurry. My name is Daniel, I live in London at... at... Mayfair... What have I done? This is crazy. Don't forget, don't forget. I must stop him. Focus! My name is... is... I am Daniel."


You find yourself in the Brennenburg castle, lost and without any clue what's happening, you roam around the halls, trying to unveil the secrets of the haunting place. Soon you find out something horrible has happened, and although you want to escape so called "darkness" blocks your path and there is nothing left for you to do but venture further into the depths of the mysterious castle.

Gameplay - 8/10
Story - 9/10
Cutscenes - 7/10 (Cutscenes are very atypical. They consist of some text, a voiceover and bright background. They explain the deeper lore of the events of Amnesia. Although original, not very impressive.)
Soundtrack - 10/10
Atmosphere - 10/10 (This is THE atmospheric horror game.)
Summary - 8.5/10. The original horror game that propelled horror genre to bloom. The game that paved the way for titles like Layers of Fear. Timeless classic yet to be excelled. A must play. That's what Amnesia is.
