Sonic Forces Is probably the best Modern Sonic game I played so far.

Besides the first few moments of bug that caused the game to crash and giving a roadblock, it was one of those games that I could sit down and without throwing my controller at the ground could finish it in a okay pace.

Gameplay:

The gameplay is solid in my book.
There's no lives. Instead of that you get scores and the scores are calculated based on your time you beat the stage, the retries you took to beat the stage, the rings you collected. + robots and collection bonuses they get calculated into your rank score and additionally they add to a medal system ranking you up.
The game consist of 30 stage + secret stages and 3 additional free Shadow stage which are unique.
Addititonally you have side content like doing SOS mission with certain characters and adaily challange for another bonus.

Classic Sonic:
physics feel slightly off gave me an interesting moment when I tried to jump on a trampoline and with the little momentum I got I landed on the other side of the trampoline.
Additionally they added the drop dash from Mania which can be useful but I don't think I used it much besides the first few levels where I felt more comfortable with it.
They have him only one type of shield. Which is the bubble shield however this time it functions like the blue shield instead of the bubble. It does not have bounce ability, does not protect you from drowning.

Modern Sonic:
They re-balanced the boost. Boost does not being full by default when you enter a level. You need to destroy robots or free some wisps to gain boost. Rings won't do.
In the other hand constantly boosting is also not necessarily viable. there are certain parts of the maps where you have to make sure you either hit a booster to avoid falling off the map or turn low or high speed.
There is air boost this time around.
If you don't have a target with homing attack sonic double jumps. I personally feel it a welcoming change.
no light speed dash

Avatar:
You use weapons costumize different weapons has different bonuses and different uses.
I did not get around myself to try and use all of them but what I tried is
-the burst (which is default) makes a constant flame attack if powered up does multiple jumps.
-Lightning it's an eletric whip practically. if powered up "light speed dash" (follows rings AND enemies this time)
-Meteor targets multiple targets and gives you temporary invincibility powered up
-Greengun I tried this but I don't think there's a wisp for it? it pushes enemies into eachother destroying them instantly but extremely useless against bosses
-Cube / didn't try
-Drill / didn't try
-Nega / didn't try
You have a sort of "homing" attack with it.
Each weapon has different abilities do different things.

Modern Sonic & Avatar:
This is a stage variant. Where you play both of them in the same time. Sonic's speed and your avatar's weapon combined. It's my personal favourite not because you use your character you made up, but because it's probably the most fun stages.

They also added or well re-added a few quick time event to both of them respectively to they gameplay. Which honestly makes sense.

Bosses:
interestingly enough these bosses are less generic sonic bosses. they not the type of "hit me till I die" they were slightly more challenging than usual. Challenging in a way that is still fun to beat. And it's not a "7 times hit and dead" they have a health bar and different spots to attack some giving more or less damage. Like the avatar's weapon can be a consistent low damage but obviously the homing attack is almost always the strongest.

Stages:
the levels are short 1-3 minutes. But they actually are fun to play They feel well designed for what they are.
But as good they are one should mention that they are sort of a "call back" levels. Most of these stage designs (but not layouts) has been seen before in other sonic games.
But it's also not too huge of an issue in my book.
The game can be completed in 3ish hours.

Story:

Eggman discovers the Phantom Ruby and it's powers and attempts to use it agaisnt everyone mostly to make sure Sonic is defeated and stays down. The Resistance's job is to restore the peace, stop and take back they territories from Eggman.

Infinite not explained in the game but he is actually just a Jackal an ex-squad leader trying to raid Eggman's base but ended up joining him.

Soundtrack:

... It's a Sonic game. there's really, REALLY a few Sonic game with bad ost.

I'm not going to score it like 855/1245 what I going to say is. I had fun with it. It's a Sonic game that I feel like I could replay a few times. Some stages even more times. It has it's issues, fortunately did not became a problem on my end. It run smooth on my mid-range PC:
I5 core (4 core)
6 GB memory
750 Geforce Nvidia - TI
Windows 10 os

I recommend it.
