Your head is a complex and sensitive part of your body. It has many nerves and blood vessels, and of course, your eyes and ears, all of which require protection. Protection can be accomplished by removing unsafe items, securing items, or wearing PPE ( FIGURE 1 ). This is complicated by the fact that you still need to use your eyes, ears, and sense of smell to work safely. Thorough preparation and PPE are important to ensuring your safety. For example, as part of preparation, you need to remove anything that would endanger you. Common items are jewelry, some hats, and headphones. We will explore the preparation process, and the equipment needed for proper head protection, in the following sections
