10/10 every aspect of this game is enjoyable. from the movement, combat, soundtrack, and the horror elements were all flushed out (almost) to perfection. would HIGHLY recommend.

First off, let me say this game is a MASSIVE chunk of the hard drive. Sitting at a nice 177GB. Now, i will say that when i booted up the game, i had no idea what to expect. I bought the game blindly, haven't seen more than a trailer before i purchased (for $15, might i add)

So when i started up the game and saw the size of the map, i was a little disappointed. 177GB for this???

AND THEN I SCROLLED OUT.

the map is insane. Its massive. it perfectly captures an entire country, and that alone made me stare in awe at how they managed to make a map so large, while having the game run so smooth.

I have made it about 1/5 through the game in the 15 hours i've put in so far, and it is very entertaining. The story doesn't take itself too seriously, which i appreciate. there's some comic relief to help with the serious tone of the overall game. The cutscenes, although capped at what seems to be 30FPS, are still well done, and the voice acting is spot on.

I'll add more to this review after i complete the game, but as of now, if you like the far cry games, you wont be disappointed. it's just like every other far cry game, but with more in it, and (MUCH) better customization and gunplay. Just put it on hard, it'll be fun.

EDIT 1:
I have faced a couple of bugs so far as well, but a simple restart solved the issue.
#1 was audio related. i dont remember how i triggered the bug, but vehicle sound effects seemed to just evaporate.
#2 was mini map related. the minimap still functioned the same with enemy and vehicle placements, but the minimap itself didnt show roads, buldings, etc. annoying when you're trying to drive to a destination in a short amount of time with no visible roads on the minimap, but just a minor bug considering toggling the minimap fixed it.

the melee combat in this game is decent, but not really good enough to keep playing. gets very repetitive VERY fast. Tried to just keep playing to grind out the story, but the story is laughable at best. Without the option of any gunplay, kinda just a mid tier swing and dodge game. the zombies are 1/2 the threat compared to DL1, so its hardly a "challenge"

The REAL challenge is overcoming the parts where you have to be precise with your parkour, while the parkour itself is just a tiny bit too clunky. to the point where certain points feel more like luck rather than skill, and that bring you out of the world a little bit.

The perfect example of how a remake should be. The heart of the original RE4 is there, with enough changes to keep you guessing on what will happen next. Extremely fun, and every design aspect of this game has been improved. A few memorable moments, and a lot of dialogue from the original game were left out, but enough was kept in to keep the nostalgia alive. If you have never played the original, you will still have a great time playing this masterpiece.

ALSO. Having replay value in a single player linear title is very rare for me. this game has it.

Early Access Review
Well, as a youngster, half life was the first video game i played at a young age, so there was always a special place for the series in my heart. half life 1 was perfect in my opinion. as time passed, and half life 2 episode 2 is now way behind me, the series just got old. with so many new games coming out, i almost completely forgot about the game that started my love for science fiction, horror, and crowbars. i happened to stumble upon black mesa a few years back. i bought it as soon as i saw what the plans were, and how much work was put into it. i wasnt disappointed at all. it takes the now outdated (in only a few aspects) of the original half life and gives it a new polished look and feel. areas are different but still recognizable, ai is smarter and more challenging, and weapons have a new look and feel but keep the same old feeling of the original game we all love. it isnt just a graphics overhaul like i thought it would be, it is a more current retelling of the original game (if that makes sense) i thank the team making this game because it brought me back to my childhood, but in a way that felt like a new experience as well.
