It's a MOBA so I can't recommend because if you played one, you'll know why.
As of 2024-onwards
There is a severe smurfing problem. These accounts infest low elo, preventing progression.
They have been active so long that they now have the confidence to buy items for their account, even $45 Arcanas.
Some people you will see with cosmetics you would think there is no way they would have another account, but sadly they are all over the place.
Smurfing is a reportable offence in the game, but no action gets taken. Then again I'm in Australia/OCE. Likely all the devs time is taken up by america servers and the like. So what do you do if you want to play?

tldr, if you want to play, only play turbo. Sorry.

I mostly played this game without Steam. So my 1.7k hours is VERY off. It's like like 5k hr +
I've played MMO's most of my life, i love them, and i've played pretty much all of them. Even EVE Online and Elite Danager 'n stuff.
TERA is the only one I've really, REALLY stuck to and liked more than WoW and FlyFF

From this, i can tell you what u probs wanna know

Story? No it's an MMO that is mostly on gameplay over story, it's still got style on how to sends out the storyline, but it's no masterstory that will make u go wow

pay and grind? No. You can, but it'll cost you over $1,000 to become boss.
Or put in about 80-150 Hours of multyplayer dungeons(PvE) or PvP battlegrounds, you can get the best equipment from PvP AND PvE, isn't that awesome?
It's an MMO so yes, grinding.
But compared to Flyff? It's easy. Compared to WoW, it's still easy

With the ability to max lvl in under 24hours
With the ability to play for fun AND in a competitive way, that's awesome in my books!
With NO DLC (as in no need to buy it, i would not even suggest it, i mean, u can if u want, it helps sure but no pressure AT ALL!) That's another awesome!

The dev's do a friday Stream every week, you see them on the server, they say hi now and again, that's more to say than other mmo's already

Every 4 months a new gear set comes out, new update, new stuff, new dungeons with new mechanics
So even if you leave the game for like 6 months and come back. you can still get back on track easy! No worry!
For coming back to the game after 30 days away they give you some stuff to help you out get back in, it makes you feel really welcome

btw the story line at the start, isn't like other mmo's
it's no the "you are the hero! save us!" it's more like "oh, you're here, well your nothing, you have to prove yourself! get to it weakling!" You are just another man in the army, it's your job to make yourself stand out! So get to it! :)

People try to say the game is dead, it's perfectly alive, It's just a meme at this point
People try to say its p2w, but that's only if u wanna spend 1k+ every month
you CAN get a sub for $15 every month, gives cool stuff, it helps you and the dev's out, i think it's worth because this game is not like any other mmo I've seen, the dev's actually care! Nothing is over priced! Some people say there is, but that's just becasue the item is rare, or took the dev's a long time to make(ya gotta pay their wages you know!)
With less tan 24hr Ticket support (3days on busy times like when a new update/class comes out)

There are SOOO many classess! So much playstyles! Assessories! Looks! Skins! Everything!
2x exp boosts you can get ingame for cheap as! (every day u get 5fed bills, it costs 10 for a 24hr 2x exp boost, it's so worth)

I speak it's praise because at every turn i think the game is gonna get crap, it doesn't!
Community is not toxic, low to no "global spam 3rd party site money" type of thing, those acc's get banned witin 48 hours, the dev's are really on the ball!

If i wasn't doing study/work I'd still be playing this
It is a MMO, so it does require you to put time in to get places, you can't just play for 1 week, then stop for a week then wonder why you are not moving along :/

Played it, and it was AMAZING! Allot of people don't like it or put it down because their PC can't handle it or have not updated their drivers and say "It's not my rig" but they dont even know what drivers are. So sad.

However someone like me who saw new game, updated everything, then played. It was amazing, and never had a problem with it!
Great story, there are holes but if u just go with it, doesn't matter :) Good stuff!

In the remastered version
Ur ships are calculated in "amount of ships" not squads
So you cant build 6 squads expecting 6 pop, no more like it counts each ship and ur pop is 70........
So like... ok?

The UI is odd.
Changed everything around for... some reason? ok sure. me and others all agree it was better back in HW2

you can change the size of the UI, cool, only if it worked correctly, you see, when i change the "button UI" it only changes the buttons on the right side, not the left, no, the left shall remain small with no way to make them bigger.
So that sucks on my 2560 x 1440 rez
gl trying to read that crap!

Trying to find good, i zoom in on the ships, ok they look.. brighter... i guess, but the dark gloom on the ships in SPACE looked better than ships that just GLOW for some reason, where is the light coming from?
All settings are on max yet shadows are not working? And not just for me, its for my 2 friends as well. So it's the game.

So it turns out i bought this for the HW2.... no the original one, the one that still stands as the best Space strat game ive ever played.
And sadly this "remastered" crap made it worse!

PS: in settings you can change your mouse to the HW1 house, but not the 2nd HW mouse? lolk get your ♥♥♥♥ together. I wish i could refund :c

If you are into low story with lots of personality, then sure. I don't remember how i even got this game lol

I rushed this game in 3 hours, but that was without looking at the well played areas and having fun at laughing at "cake is a lie", ect.
but i did play it again, to admire the way they have designed it and made great use of common sense and problem solving methods to strain your mind if you had not done much problem solving games, i would recomend this game for the enjoyment, old cake is a lie jokes and it's a good retro play if you consider this game retro now.

This may be a bit late, but i thought it would be wise to share my thoughts on this game, as far as Strategy games go, this is one of the largest scaled ones i've seen, giving massive battlefields, high-tech units and destructive power to everything, unleashing my inner desire to kill everything in a large area, while having a big play area to have so much fun with! Up to 8 player maps, maxed out games can end in 15min or up to 2hours long, giving a wide variety of ways to build your forces and face your enemy head on in this large-scaled-high-tech-land/air and navel weaponary pure destructive fun, this would have to be hands down one of the best i've played, even after the game has been out for so long, people are playing it everywhere today. So as far as you should play it or not? i think yes, yes you should play this game.
