With the sequel coming very soon, I decided it was finally time to go back to this after only playing a couple chapters when it first came out. This game truly is the best non-strategy Warhammer experience from both a gameplay and lore/story perspective. What a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ diamond in the rough. I only hope that SM2 will continue this trend!

It is a tad strange that the final boss is relegated to QTE's but I will chock that up to 2011 games being 2011 games.

In the grim darkness of the far future, some badass third person shootery occurs - 8.5/10

Obtuse puzzle design, a vague and uninteresting story, and agonizing controls make for a unique but overall infuriating experience.

I hate to put down what is realistically a very well made game but I found myself annoyed more times than I did really enjoying most of anything. Maybe its because my brain just doesn't operate like a normal person's or maybe its because most of the puzzles expect you to have access to some kind of mental rubric I just don't have.

The photographic memory thing is cool in idea, but in practice, its a cluttered network of letters, posters, and other documents that the game expects you to remember every last detail even though it all starts to melt together by the halfway mark.

I didn't hate all of my time in this game. Some of it is really well put together, but the constant need for slow-walk backtracking and remembering why 1947 is important to Side Character Number 3 gets old very quickly.

6/10 - Maybe I'm just stupid, idk.

This is one of those weird games you buy on a whim, wondering what drugs you took that led you to make such a purchase, that after several hours of playtime leaves you wondering what drugs you can take to stop you from playing for far longer than is healthy for you.

A proper Papers Please successor with impressive detective and FPS elements. Truly a pleasure only PC gaming can grant a player. Bravo Crazy Rocks!

Like Hotline Miami had a baby with Neon White. ♥♥♥♥ me this game is addicting.

Loved this game since I played the demo during Steam Next Fest.

If there was a Hall of Fame for Third Person Shooters this game would surely have an exhibit entirely to itself.

There is nothing quite like leaping sideways in bullet-time with duel pistols as a 50 year old alcoholic failed cop with marksmen aim. They just don't make shooters like this anymore.

Another really creative short but sweet gamble your life away game à la Buckshot Roulette. Tim Oxton really knows how to create an extremely unsettling mood as well as a simply addicting gameplay motif and I respect that greatly.

This text may be UNDER the above but this review itself is OVER - 8/10

Everything a truly open-ended immersive sim should be, mixed with an amazingly campy noir setting ripped straight out of a comic book, filled with tons of guns and other toys to mess around with. Not to mention the amazing music and hilarious voice acting. What the hell is not to love?

New Blood, Trey Powell and Jason Bond know how to get ♥♥♥♥ done. 9/10

As someone who loves the Metroidvania genre, I struggle to find enjoyment out of one so obtuse in its level and puzzle design that I quit before completing it.

I found myself lost and annoyed way too often, struggling to understand what I was doing wrong in many portions of the map just to find out I either didn't have the right item locked away in a portion of the map or that I just wasn't using it exactly how the single developer intended it to be used. Which I understand is the case for a lot of Metroidvanias, I just feel others have done this medium more justice by not tossing the player into the fire or treating them like a dumbass for not immediately understanding the game's processes.

Building the entire game's progression on finding "secret eggs,' hidden around the map seems cool at first but becomes irritating the closer you get to the 64 that are scattered around. Since the map doesn't mark down the areas of the ones you found, an online guide is almost certainly a must.

I didn't find the sound or music all that compelling which is a shame because games like these can be carried a lot by a killer soundtrack and sound design.

Some positives: The visuals are incredible. It feels like playing through a zoo full of neon lights and many of the individual animal areas are quite unique. There is still stuff to enjoy here, I just myself cannot recommend it as I don't hate anyone enough for that.

Overall, an alright first go for a developer with a lot of potential, that I personally struggle to gel with. I'm definitely in the minority here haha. 6/10

After a few hours of this insanely hilarious game, I've realized a couple things:

1. The mixing of a typing word-puzzle game and dungeon crawler is ingenious...
and
2. I don't know words nearly as much as I thought I did. (English major that writes for a living... go figure.)

What a concept and seriously great work from the devs.

I've never had games make me feel so stupid for struggling with a puzzle for so long, than figuring it out after way too long, like I have with Braid and the Witness. The updated graphics and sound do a lot of heavy lifting to bring this game up to a modern standard. Gameplay wise there's a lot to love and a lot to be annoyed at, which I firmly believe is just that Jonathan Blow charm.

The fact that I can remember playing this way back on XBLA when I was a kid and now I'm 25 playing it all over again, says a lot about this game's staying power in the indie scene after 16 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ years. Though it is a bit dated, this classic still holds up among the other powerhouses of indie gaming.

8/10 - ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I John Blow at these games.
