With a lot of nods to previous Final Fantasy installments, an ever increasing ammount of content avaliable for its players to enjoy at their own pace as well as difficult content for those who enjoy difficulty, Final Fantasy XIV is undoubtedly one of the best MMOs avaliable for fans of the genre.

As a player that came to this game after being frustrated at other MMO games (looking at you, World of Warcraft.) I was first and foremost surprised at the quality of the storyline that is narrated through the Main Story Questline of the game, which sees more quests being added each major patch that is dropped. The ammount of attention to detail that goes to world and character building in the storyline is astounding, filled with memorable characters, each with their own individual personality and beliefs.

The gameplay also isn't lacking, though it may seem PAINFULLY slow at the beggining with its 2.5 second global cooldowns, I guarantee that it gets busier and faster-paced as you level your class and learn how it works. FFXIV also has a rather distinct way of handling classes and is known for this system: instead of creating multiple characters, one for each class, you can level all classes (they're called jobs in XIV) in a single character, you just switch your weapon to one that is equipped by the job you wish to switch for and it's done, albeit leveling multiple jobs can be time consuming and a rather tiring endeavor.

A great OST is another aspect the game benefits from, with composers such as Nobuo Uematsu (who composed soundtracks for other FF games) and Masayoshi Soken, the game offers a wide variety of music styles (you can search for any soundtrack from the Alexander raid and then compare it to Bismarck's fight theme to see what I'm talking about) so it never gets too repetitive. I personally often find myself searching for some of its songs on youtube just so I can listen to them when I'm not home!

Although the game does have its problems, such as an ever growing player population meaning servers are often full, making new players either have to create their characters on other worlds or wait until late at night when everyone goes to sleep to create them and all of the problems that follow from an overpopulated server: login queues, not much housing avaliable and such stuff, albeit Square Enix has spared little effort in mitigating these problems.

tldr; FFXIV caters to both long-term FF fans as wells as newcomers to the series, to players who wish to dedicate more time to the game (and want to take on more challenging content) as well as those who wish to play it more casually, the gameplay feels slow at first but it gets absurdly good given time, original and fun boss encounters, a good storyline, as well as a company that listens to player feedback. Honestly, there's little more I could as of an MMO. I can't recommend FFXIV enough to whoever is thinking whether they should buy it or not.
