I really tried to enjoy this game, I really did. It clearly has some creativity to it, and I can appreciate a smaller game using its budget wisely with the repeating assets and all, but the story and gameplay are both utter chores to suffer through. I played offline on a Steam Deck for about 5 hours [the time shown next to my review is probably incorrect] and I just kept waiting for it to get better. I had a moment when I realized "oh, so this is the whole game now?" and that's where I stopped.

Far too much of the game is "hold control stick forward and walk slowly while characters share vague exposition." When it's time for gameplay at all, it is very dull and very uninspired stealth segments. You don't use tools meaningfully or interact with the world. It's more like rolling dice and hope you're lucky enough to run between enemies and get to the next stage as quickly as possible. The repeating nature of the levels and design recycling doesn't have to be a bad thing, but it is completely at odds with stealth gameplay. For example: It's not clear what cover you can hide behind or what doors you can use. Far too often you'll find yourself in wide open spaces where stealth isn't possible at all. Ammo is very limited, and the more you use your gun the more the enemies use theirs. The more you sprint, the more the enemies will sprint toward you with no chance of evasion. The game forces you to use "stealth" in brightly-lit, wide-open spaces. It just doesn't work.

With that said, I appreciate what this game was trying to do. Some of the basic mechanics and ideas are interesting. If you enjoy difficult games which require replaying the same levels over and over, you might enjoy this a lot more than I did. It's not without merit, and might be worth a try on sale.

Wow, just wow.

I'll be brief, and blunt: I am not a fan of this game's visual style, or its gameplay. This is a glorified visual novel, and that is not a genre I normally enjoy. But Elsinore is a drastic exception for me, because the depth and complexity of the interactive story is simply incredible.

This is not an "accessible" game, as it doesn't hold your hand or tell you what to do at all, but the fact I could play through dozens of timeloop worlds and still find something new in each one is beyond impressive. It's not a game for everyone, but those who put in the "work" to play this game will be rewarded. Just when you think the story is wrapping up, a wild twist or other bombshell is dropped on you which opens up the world and expands the story beyond what you expected. As the player, you can not only influence events, but influence WHEN events take place. I can't begin to imagine the effort put into crafting this detailed and dynamic story. Highly recommended if that sort of thing sounds interesting to you. I finally played this game because it was referenced in Outer Wilds, and other than the fact I prefer Outer Wild's focus on exploration, the connection between the two games' timeloop mechanics do not disappoint.

[P.S. My game time is incorrect due to offline play on a Steam Deck. I think it was closer to 10 hours to reach one of the endings.]

- Mouse and keyboard support might be broken or non-existent...? Figured I should lead with that. I played back-and-forth with a Xbox controller and Steam Deck. It seems like a good game for the latter!

I got this game on sale for $4 and at that price, it's incredible and I highly recommend it!

However, if I had paid full price, I might be just a little disappointed by the simplicity of the "puzzles" if you can even call them that. The game presents a fairly large mansion to explore, but the actual objectives are unfortunately very linear. Once you enter a new area, just look for whatever two new things you haven't seen before, and try to use one with the other. That'll solve more than half of the mysteries, and the late game ones are just a matter of random chance whether you happen to find and remember a specific piece of dialogue or find some specific room somewhere in the mansion. It's not that I wish the game was more difficult per-say, but I do wish the mysteries required deduction and problem solving on behalf of the player, and less on just stumbling into things at the right time.

The reason I'm complaining so much on a "thumbs up" review is because this game could have been so much more and I feel like the developers were hoping for that too. The game presents some really creative mechanics, visuals, sound/music, etc. If it leaned a bit more into being a free-form sandbox with a story you could uncover in your own way, then it would be a perfect game in my opinion. In short, I'd love to see a sequel or spiritual successor utilize these game mechanics to greater effect.

With all that said, I could see $20 being a perfectly fair price for someone who is really into the aesthetic, story, and characters. But I personally arrived here on my quest to find a timeloop game with freeform exploration and game mechanics that can compare to the likes of Outer Wilds, and I haven't found it yet unfortunately. Sexy Brutale is one of the better games I've discovered during this timeloop game quest, but I'm starting to doubt I'll ever find a game where every element perfectly converges again.

P.S. Be aware of spoilers. This game has a crazy Shyamalan twist at the end.

It's simple, and it's fun. There are some downgrades from Splitgate 1 as other reviews are quick to point out, but I always factor in a game's price with my reviews and it's hard to beat free. I love Splitgate for having the perfect combination of competitive and casual gameplay. I can get serious and play the objective, or be silly and play with portals and trickshots. It's fun either way.

Ironically, the previous game's detailed cosmetic customization which let you change specific armor pieces would give us more incentive to spend money on microtransactions. This time, you can seemingly only buy full-body skins with no customization. The new additions, mainly class specific items and powerups, are interesting but nothing ground-breaking.

Slow but highly satisfying "city builder type" game with much more emphasis on landscaping and logistics than actually building a city. Great gameplay and great style; highly recommended!

Very disappointed by the lack of controller support. Seemed like this would be a good local split screen game, but it's not playable for that purpose.

This is what video games are all about. It is weird and gross, but the cartoony artstyle keeps it from being unpleasantly gross. The world is silly and ridiculous, yet I find myself engaged enough to take the time to talk to every NPC and explore each level's details. It strikes a perfect balance between creativity and gameplay. Levels are incredibly fun to re-play, and I found myself unlocking new shoes [powerups] long before I reached the endgame for that reason. My only complaint is that the game is very badly optimized and barely playable on a Steam Deck, but this is more of a mouse & keyboard kind of game anyway. Highly recommended for anyone who would appreciate a fun arcade style shooter!

This game has the hype for a reason! It's pretty much required that you play with friends, and you will want to play with someone who has an idea of the basic mechanics since the game doesn't hold your hand at all, but besides those two factors everything about this is perfect for co-op shenanigans. The game is very creative, but also has really well-refined mechanics. It's technically a horror game, but you'll probably be laughing more often than afraid.

Probably the best multiplayer shooter ever made. It mixes all of the best elements from many different shooter genres, while excluding the worst [like micro-transactions.]

Great game, and plays much better than I expected it would on the OG Vive. Even plays great in a small space. Obviously an Index and a large play space would be better but this game is incredibly well-optimized for all play methods.
