TL;DR - Girl Played 6k hours in Alpha, saw tweets and planned road-maps for the future of the game. Was baited and switched. Game is now rogue-like, resetting you each region. Maps explored, Quests are repetitive & the same.

Back in 2013 after graduating Highschool, I decided to back Cube World. This came with a playable alpha at the time and a tragic issue following. Surely most do know about it, if not do google it. I've spent at least 6000+ Hours in Cube World Alpha, However i'm here to talk about Cube World Beta. Of course since I backed the Alpha, I got a steam key for the Beta.

I'll change my review if I see change, but I cant recommend it now. Wollay the game developer in short, teased everyone with cube world. Literally... Its not even a question to see how much content is actually missing, like being able to 'pick' a faction for example (His tweets showed that each faction had a leader and were friendly to the player, which resulted in that speculation.) He slowly built up the hype for cube world again. In this link you could see the planned features, essentially a roadmap of sorts.

That was on September 5th of 2019 that those were still advertised as such. There have been numerous tweets and i'm sure you could do a quick search to see all the missing things from the game and all his tweets that showcased many sweet things for the game.

Also just so you know press F1 to see what your keys can do, and CTRL+Scroll wheel to zoom in and out.

*EXPLORATION*
Back in the Alpha the game was rather... A simple true to earth RPG that dropped you in a world and let you 'have' your own adventure. There were different raritys of 'lamps' for example and I believe purple/epic was the best one you could luckily find out in the world. However you also had Hang-gliding and boating/sailing which allowed you to traverse in really unique ways. However to use the hang-glider/boat you needed to have 10 silver to buy it, as well as invested at least 5 skill points into Climbing to unlock the skill hang-gliding in the skill tree. Same deal with Sailing, 5 points in swimming, then a point in sailing. Any more points in sailing/hang-gliding increased the speed in which you travel with such. Your map even had a 'Fog of War' making the wandering adventurer thing work because you could find some cool structures and/or dungeons.
In the Beta your penalized for wanting to explore. Your map is already fully explored with each neighboring region. You can literally find 'everything' in the map and mark it, so no sense of exploration, just walking there then seeing the structure and continuing on.

*QUESTS*
Alpha had a very... very... very barebones quest system. Basically you'll look at your map, see two crossed swords in the distance indicating a dungeon. You'd walk there, do the dungeon, and get some phat rewards.
In Beta, its MUCH more "refined". Notice I used the quotes there. Yes there are more quests... but in every zone... They are exactly the same with some minor text alterations. Good luck saving the gnome every single time.

*LOOT DROPS*
Now another thing to touch base on is like any MMO/RPG gear and Items have rarity
White being the standard, Green being Uncommon, Blue being Rare, Purple being Epic, Yellow being legendary, In alpha there was 1 more rarity which was Red being Mythical.
This is still in the game today thankfully, but only until legendary. Plus it doesn't have the same impact due to a certain reason. That reason being is simply there are no 'levels'. You DO NOT get a skill tree, your class/spec has all skills unlocked. This meant that if you found lets say a legendary piece of gear, your pretty much golden for a long time in that particular "Region".

*LEVELING*
Back in the Alpha, you had levels and you could level up traditionally. This mean gear as well had level requirements and it was pretty insane since back then if you wanted to wear a power level 100 legendary gear, you had to be a whopping level of 1,981.
Also back then in the alpha, area's and monsters scaled with you. You could just be a happy lil murder hobo, but also still get your @$$ handed to you by dungeon mobs, and its happened to my friend who was a level 3500+. If you had skill you could take on higher level mobs, even at level 1
In beta however, everything is a fixed level. So think of it this way, White= lvl1, Green= lvl 5, Blue= level 10, Purple= lvl 15, Yellow= lvl 20
You will not be able to kill anything higher than white by yourself at first so prepare to die because of the new progression system and fixed levels.
At least in MMORPGS your gear doesn't disappear per region, it helps you progress in the next region, example in WoW, Elwynn forest 1-10, Westfall (11-20), etc. . . . Your gear, does not become invalidated. You level up, get new gear, get stronger and feel stronger and work up stronger mobs to continue the cycle.

*RELICS and REGION-LOCK*
But in the Beta as it **CURRENTLY** is, its all about suffering through the first few hours trying to get kills and lucky loot drops to get the ball rolling. Collecting relics which are the Harp, Spirit Bell, Skywhistle, Reins, Treasure Spirit, Climbing claws, Hang Glider and Boat. These relics help you in the current region to do tasks like opening golden doors, or going through grates. BUT ONLY for that region, making you have to search for them EACH AND EVERY TIME you go into a new region. Doesn't even stop there, You like your region, all quests completed, full legendary gear, congratulations! If none of those gear pieces have the "+" suffix, then in the next region its useless. "+" suffixes are extremely rare and are treasured valuables in my opinion, but they're only useful for the regions adjacent to the one you found it in, so its not good forever.

Each artifact levels you up and makes one of your skills, hang-gliding speed, sailing speed, swim speed, swim stamina, climb speed, climb stamina, riding speed, or even lamp light radius better. To get artifacts you usually need really good gear to find them in the regions dungeons. Artifacts are basically your 'endgame goal' and even then THEY HAVE DIMINISHING RETURNS and aren't worthwhile. Picture linked is my lamp radius increasing.

It gets sadder because there is a Cheat Engine table that takes out the region lock for relics and gear.. and the game is just.. nothing.. There's nothing to do, no enemies scale with you so theres no challenge or depth to it... Its really disheartening. This game is advertised as an RPG, but its far from it. Its an exploration Rogue-like.

Anyone who tells you they played the alpha speaks on how by level 30 you were overpowered, ITS FAR FROM THE TRUTH. You could be level 2000 and above, and still get your @$$ handed to you and your supposed to have strong skills... I had hoped for changes, however as of 9/29/19 Majority of die hard Cube World fans hopes were killed as we saw the shocking discovery that this is the full release and this is 'as' intended. I am a level 29 Guardian Warrior.. and I can't play or recommend this to anyone... I was hyped and hopeful... But this was a Bait and Switch... No communication from the developer has screwed us.. and you as well if you buy this product.

Your going to think most of us are Trolls or Haters of the Cube World Game. We tried to speak and we weren't heard. We loved the game and wanted to help steer it in the right direction, but instead his vision blinded him to even his closest and most die-hard followers to making a game that is not infinite, has little for progression and most mechanics/systems already in place basically hinder the games potential and your own... and it will demoralize you each time you start a region.. and this is from a girl who's done at least 10 regions with friends.. it hurts our souls to have legendaries degrade to literal grey gear, which is worse than white.

Early Access Review
Ok, So Starbound, lets talk about it.

The game itself is actually fairly nice. Having played both stable and unstable versions since their release... It is a game with literally infinite amounts of progression. Back then, your matter manipulator was very lack luster and now it is an essential tool to have.

Compared to a game we all know, 'Terraria'. The game is both similar and vastly different. The major one being that the world is 'Infinite' You can travel to different worlds, and set up different home bases. The questing system is quite interesting. Even more so if you dig deeper to actually have tenants who can sell you some nifty weapons. The tenants, over time will generate their own quests.

Compared to Terraria, Chucklefish, in my opinion, do their best to keep the game feeling alive. A way they did this was through the nightly unstable build which shows what they have added and what could be expected in the future patches to come.

In this game, you can end up loving the character you make and just have fun in your own personal vast sandbox. Or of course playing with friends is always awesome. In this game there are 'classes' in a sense.
The Seperator is the 'ok' melee damage dealer, who has the most defense and health but low energy.
The Accelerator is the balanced ranged damage dealer who has a balanced amount of health, defense and energy.
The Manipulator is the high damage dealer who has the least amount of defense and armor, but high energy. (I personally play this one as melee high risk, high reward fun.)

The game is pretty fun with its progression, especially with your ship as it will essentially be your sort of home base. The game is awesome, and a hell of a lot more fun with more people to play with.
