Squad is not a game for everyone. It is not easy to get into, but the playerbase is overall quite friendly to newcomers. The server you play on matters more than almost anything in this game, as some of the more popular ones are rife with lax admins and overall bad-faith players.

That being said, this is my number 1 played game in my library, and the vast majority of my time with it has been amazing. The most important factor for enjoyment for me are the people you play with. Jumping in solo will be fun for a while, but the sheen will fade if you don't find a regular group of people to play with; there are a whole number of communities online that would fit the bill. I've had more fun sitting in a village for half an hour not seeing a single enemy than I have in my entire time in many other shooters. It's a game about pacing, about anticipation and learning to rely on others. At its best it has many of the best moments I've had in video games, and at its worst I ragequit with the rest of them. It's a game I need to take weeks away from playing because of frustration, but it keeps pulling me back in and I forget why I stopped playing in the first place.

Yes, it has bugs. At this point (V15, with V16 test ongoing), most of them are manageable and predictable with enough playtime. The hitboxes aren't always great and there are some systems that need tweaking. I fear the helicopters are going to be a mess for the first several months of their release.

There have been numerous changes to gameplay, addition of vehicles, optics, FOB enhancements and so much more since I started playing back around v5. It's a game that has evolved over the past four years to almost holding its own against AAA titles from a stability and balance perspective. However the draw here is communication, reliance on others, teamwork and not worrying about your KDR. If you go into it with this mindset you'll have a great time. As I said, this game isn't for everyone, but if you embrace the chaos and the learning curve it will be the best game you've ever played.

Still in alpha, this game has a whole lot of potential. $15 is a pretty low barrier to entry, so if you're cool with a somewhat buggy, incomplete zombie sandbox game, this is definitely a good option.
