A massive update to a very classic strategy game, that manages to retain its difficulty while allowing you to mismanage an army of your named friends that immediately die in horrific ways after recruiting them.

Save scumming and reloads are key to saving your buddies lives. Alternatively you can create a grand memorial with the names of everyone you know!

In actuality it isn't too difficult passed the midway point of the game. The Mech upgrades provided by the Enemy Within expansion are fairly overpowered featuring Grende Launchers, Land Mines, and Flamethrowers making fried mince meat out of groups of enemies while your Sniper(s) mop up. You are not forced into this though, and can make the game as challenging as you want.

For added enjoyment, prolonged gameplay and extra options, I recommend The Long War mod, which also happens to be available for XCOM2 if you've enjoyed the first one enough to look into the sequel.
