Hades is a Roguelike procedurally generated dungeon crawler with RPG elements in the same vein as Wizard of Legend and The Binding of Issac. Put out by Super Giant, the same company that brought us Bastion and Pyre.

You play as Zagreus, the son of the titular Hades, on his relentless quest to leave the underworld. Along the way you meat famous characters from Greek Myth such as Achilles and Orpheus, battling your way through the denizens of four layers of the underworld. Aiding his plight are his divine family, the gods of Olympus, each granting him boons to empower him and help him over come the challenges of the land of the dead. with his selection of weapons, each offering unique ways to battle, and a trove of keepsakes, there are so many different combos to try and hours of replay ability.

GAMEPLAY 9/10
The game is on a decent learning curve, starting out slow introducing you to mechanics gradually as you ascend through the levels, and becomes challenging the higher you go. Each weapon that is available feels unique and none feel stronger or better than another. The room designs are a little repetitive but that could change as the game is still in early access.
An issue I have come across, is that the controls can seem a little unresponsive at times, I have been playing with a Rock Candy Xbox one third party controller. There is also a bit of hiccuping very infrequently when there are many particle effects on screen at once. All said the game is very addicting and restarting never feels tiresome.

VISUALS 10/10
Hades is designed in an art style reminicent of Bastion and Transistor. It has a great comic book feel to its simplicity. Ability effects are all crisp and the room plates don't clash with the characters moving around on them. The Isometric view is familiar if you have played any of Super Giant other titles and harkens back to other dungeon crawlers like Diablo and cRPGs like Baulder's Gate.

SOUND 8/10
The audio in Hades accentuates most scenes and isn't obtrusive during the dialog. However the music can get very repetitive through each room, and due to the very nature of the game, players will be hearing the same tracks over and over. As a note the dialog can be very quiet as all characters seem to talk under their breath, with every line, the only exception is the boon dialog of the Olympians. Most are bombastic unfortunately the echoing effect they gave to all the dieties make it hard to understand them at times.

FINAL 9/10
This is a great game and well worth the price tag, I will be picking it up on Switch when it is released on that platform. Addictive gameplay, interesting story and hours of replayabiility Hades is a must buy for any Roguelike Fans.
