Its a great game, more story oriented than most MMOs (with the exception of ESO). There's really nothing to complain about - the story, graphics, music, and performance are all outstanding. The combat is more about positioning and timing and less about your character min/max and skills, which isn't my favorite but its still fun.

As a player of FFXI back in the glory days, there are some things that are missing in this game that would elevate it to a better experience for me personally. I understand why these things were removed and I don't blame the developers for accommodating the newer player base. But you have this beautiful game, and large areas to play in - yet there are few group opportunities in these environments (most group content are in smaller instanced dungeons). That's a shame, and a lot of the art and effort that went in to making those areas are lost as you fly through the mandatory zone quests on to the next thing.

Long story short, FFXIV is as good as an MMO can be in 2024. It has thousands of hours of content, a million systems to grind, and a large variety of things to do. If you're a younger player in your teens or 20s, you'll think this is the best thing ever created, but older players will have a hard time shaking that feeling of something missing.

Morrowind is ugly by 2024 standards. It offers no quality of life for traveling, managing inventories, or for questing. It also has the most rigid combat of an RPG of its time or since. Despite that, it is still one of the greatest RPGs ever. Getting lost in the world and just seeing where the road takes you was one of the best feelings when this game was released - something that modern RPGs don't really let you do. This game did it right, it spoiled nothing, and encouraged its player to be smart and experiment.
