This is the kind of game that I will never forget, and I will always recommend it to my friends.

I was about 10 hours into Alien: Isolation. The idea that there may not actually be a xenomorph on the station was creeping into my mind. I entered a common hall and spotted the elevator I was looking for, but the vents seemed awful noisy. Then it dropped from the ceiling. The sound of it hitting the floor betrayed it's weight. I hid, began sneaking to the elevator, then heard it climb back into a duct. I noticed my breathing was heavy, and barely muted the pounding of my heart. I still felt in control, but ridiculous for being so worked up over a game.

I activated the elevator switch in the back of the box, then turned to face the door. Why didn't I hear it?! No thump, no screech, just a silent ominous barricade hunched outside the elevator. All control was immediately lost. It stared at me, chuffed, and seemed to shift It's weight. The elevator dinged, the doors slowly closed, neither of us moved an inch. I didn't even draw a weapon. I moved to the next floor in silence.

I was sweating. A visceral fight or flight had been activated. I had to turn off the game, had to go to bed. Nothing in real life has ever crippled me like that. Thank you Creative Assembly for certifying my mortality.
