Its one of the best rated RPGs of all time for a reason. If you like fantasy and like real RPGs. Play it.

Its a fairly simple gameplay loop of grinding for the next gear to hit the next biome, and theres some questionable design decisions designed to keep you playing like an MMO, but the building is cool, the gameplay is fun, and there is a ton of potential. Its even better with friends.

Hopefully the devs continue to do right by their players, but even now its worth playing for it relatively low price.

This is a game with a huge amount of potential. Every system you interact with, from the colonists, to the space stations, to the mechs, you can picture all the ways that you could use them... except you can't. They are all as shallow as a puddle. Colonists are largely pointless, mechs are linear and only exist to grind out their own upgrades and eventually make themselves irrelevant. etc etc.

For other games with active development, these systems would be an engaging and interesting first step that you can't wait for the dev to fill out in later updates, but that never happens here. Eventually you reach a point where you've finished the various disjointed systems and realise that they never really interact with each other, and you are caught in the repetitive core gameplay loop. Still, I come back to this game every update, rare as they are, in the hope that its changed because the potential is there.

But its not worth the money as it is.

Build the greatest colony, outfit the pawns with the best gear and crazy implants and train them to the heights of skill, and then watch it all go away because a biological grenade shaped like a rat decided it really hates humans while your best soldier is having a tantrum because he ate berries instead of the lovingly cooked meal sitting next to them.

A+ would recommend.

Ever played an RTS and wished you could also fight in the battle? Every played an RPG, acruing wealth, power and rank but getting frustrated when you couldn't actually use that power or actually change how things were run? This is the game that scratches that itch.

I love this game. Don't let the play time fool you, thats just what I've racked up on the Steam version.

I loved XCOM Enemy Unknown. And the originals before it. So I was very excited to play Enemy Within when I bought it....Except I couldn't. Because it won't even launch. Crashes every single time I've tried. On a computer that exceeds the specs, and runs Enemy Unknown perfectly.

Its a problem that, judging by the sheer number of threads, lots of people have and they've had it since at least late 2013, and but by now in late 2014 they still haven't done anything about it. Lodging a support ticket is slow, and took a tweet to even get them to look,

I'd love to base this recommendation on gameplay and what it adds to EU but I can't. Maybe I'll update it if anything changes, but as it is? No I wouldn't recommend, because you might end up giving your money for a several gb download that does absolutly nothing.

A fun little top down arena shooter - great for co-op with your mates, or when you don't want to play a full, serious game.
