I would have loved to play it but... THERE IS ONLY CUT SCENES! I got the game from humble and I want my money back!

I should state that this game is great but I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this game to others. From what I can tell the content is lacking currently, although it is getting updates. The difficulty is extreme and relies too much on random chance for most plays. It forces you to play a specific way that detracts from actual exploration and leans HEAVILY on tedium. Also, if there is a change in map generation all your time on this one character will become worthless if you want the new stuff. There is a few things that, if added or changed, can turn this around for me.

Firstly, an easier difficulty. This could be as simple as a 10% flat bump in favor of the player. I'm not saying the base game should be changed to this, of course, but just add a difficulty choice in the beginning to help along. Grim and grueling is fun for a lot of players but some just need to take their first steps with a little lighter feet.

The second is multiple saves. Multiple saves will do good for this game and I hear it will be added. The fact that there isn't yet is baffling to me.

The third thing is the ability to reset the map and keep the character. This function could be temporary just until the map generation changes isn't a risk anymore. I would rather keep it and have like a new game+ kind of effect with added content after the story is done.

Lastly, saving on sleep is the worst thing and it's killing your momentum BAD. I've spent 20+ minutes in a dungeon and one errant crit against me sends me back to town is severely damaging to my motivation. You NEED a way to setup camp and save on the go. I imagine that's what the caravan function will be but it's not in yet. You need something to offset the lack of the caravan until it is implemented.

Even though I have played for 6+ hours I have never made it to level 4. This is, however, not me being upset and taking blaming the game specifically. I know people play it successfully and have fun doing so but, as a person who is not that new the the concept of unforgiving games, if I am having trouble many others will too. This game gets FRUSTRATING right away and I think that you will get more in the gate by having a little honey in with that broken glass and nails.

The developer has a poor take on crisis management. Instead of "Oh no! People don't like it! Better let them know I'm working on it and fix this." It's "Oh no! People don't like it! Better go dark and hope people get tired of complaining."

As for the game. There is no progression that matter and gets boring fast. Pass this one by.

This game is to thermal dynamics as Kerbal Space Program is to rocket science. There is a lot to delve into here but the game will break laws for the sake of gameplay. Be prepared to read, plan, and lose A LOT before you get the hang of this game. I would recommend watching some YouTube videos and see what others do but don't be afraid to experiment.

The building in this game is good especially the keyboard controlls BUUUUT the way you stear the vehicle is bad. Maybe if they attached the character to the wheel would be best and using the normal controls for steering. Instead you just have to be on the vehicle and it uses different keys on the keyboard. The game controls are so cluttered that any new person has to drown in video tutorials to understand how to do anything. Also the UI is crap and WAY overcomplicated. you can build your own engine and guns is really cool but the menues and UI tries throw so much information at you that it becomes too much. Final gripe here is the bots. In first person there is this limb clipping where if you turn the arm turns before the head and you can see detachment which is annoying. They also have poor models and textures. Finally their movements are too wild in and the ability to fly and survive under water ruins the feel of the game.

TLDR summery: controls are very bad, UI is very bad, player model is TERRIBLE, way too much learning and not enough playing, building is cool.

This game has SO much potential and perhaps by release it will be one of my favorites but until then I reccomend you skip over this one for now.

Space Engineers: The spaciest engineers that ever engineered space.

Space Engineers a game where you find yourself in what I assume is an asteroid field, stranded or otherwise, and seek to make the best of it by mining and engineering. Even though this game is an early access (which up to playing this game for me means a poorly optimized and rarely updated waste of time and money) the game almost could be released as is and be worth the twenty dollar price tag. Being a guy that mained engineer on Team Fortress 2 and an avid lover of all things space I reluctantly dipped my toes (and wallet) yet again into the cesspool of early access with the hopes that this time I would find some gold. And I struck it rich.

The beautiful balance of graphics and gameplay is awe-inspiring to say the least. The ship and station building is simplistic enough to be manageable for new players yet still gives some elbow room for more creative and advanced builders. Asteroids in the game have a cubed appearance but it's not Minecraft bad. In fact you could go without noticing it easily. The engineers and well done as far as player models go. You can't choose what color you are when you enter the world and I wish there were a few different appearances as well. Game optimization seems to be a little on the clunky side but I can see it running smoother with every update and they don't skimp out on updates.

It seemed with every early access game that the game developers had a mindset of "Why should we care how unfinished our game is? We'll get around to finishing it later but first we need to blow all the money you have us on fancy cars and sexy parties!" Keen Software House Doesn't appear to have this mindset. They update constantly and they listen to the players a lot. Constantly adding new parts and rapidly fixing bugs like an over zealous exterminator with an obsession with spray attachments. Of course nobody's perfect and Space Engineers falls short multilayer.

Multiplayer was far too soon to the point of changing the join game button to join griefing session button. When the multiplayer patch came out every server was a mess of people joining games and destroying what other people are building. The worst part of it is that if you wanted to kick people for griefing then I hope your a good guesser because there was no way of telling players apart. You knew people's names from that chat window and you saw engineers in the game but there was no tagging to tell you which engineer was which player. This of course was fixed later so now it goes back to the old griefing method of players joining the game, griefing , and then getting banned. Of course by then the damage is done. All griefing aside multiplayer was also plagued with horrible optimization. Since that update the problem has been whittled down to a poor framerate when drilling but I'm sure that's going to be gone in the next few updates.

In summary this game is one of the best sandboxers "out" right now and easily worth twice as much and what it sells for. I would recommend that you play the multiplayer with people you know for now. Maybe people you can reach over and smack across the head for doing something stupid.
