In the first version of the game Gungrave G.O.R.E cemented itself as a worthy sequel to Overdose with level and boss design made to torture, infuriate and otherwise bring your patience to its edge with combat mechanics that, while they are distinct from its predecessors, brought a satisfying and fresh take on a formula that is not replicated in any of its contemporaries à la Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, etc. and this changed soon after with a couple of patches, in its current state I struggle to recommend this game anymore as they've removed essential components to its difficulty through rebalances of mechanics, area design and bosses that devalue the need of the mechanics they've iterated upon from Overdose and while patch 1.00 was the beginning of this feeling with a movement speed buff that allows you to outrun enemy bullets while shooting and the redesign of a few stages like the caves platforming section which now serves as an awkwardly paced intermediary section between kill rooms I still thought a lot of changes while ruining my own fun for the game were still a polished change to the experience that would allow it to be enjoyed by more people, but now we are on patch 1.01 where I truly feel they have killed the experience through a buff to Demolition Shot guage gain that makes it near impossible to die even on G.O.R.E difficulty, they also seemingly removed the generic enemies in condorbraves boss fight which I truly cannot fathom the need to do so as its the only thing that makes dodging his shots difficult I would've never first tried him on the previous patch and certainly not the first version of the game but now these and several other changes are making stages on the hardest difficulty barely something I have to pay attention to. I struggle to understand a lot of the other changes made as well such as 3 hit melee strings parrying rockets making death tornado a borderline useless attack and making the easier parry timing in this game feel completely unecessary, shield enemies having their shield health severely nerfed making them barely a consideration when fighting because you're likely to just break their shields regardless and even changes unrelated to balance like the weird camera angle change made during the executioners blood Demolition Shot.

Overall they've stripped various aspects of the difficulty that felt carefully considered and well crafted to compensate for people that can't accept any form of jank in their video games, unfortunately the game is by nature janky so this is still in the game but without any of the difficulty that brings things together and you're left with a lack of challenge that makes many of the abilities in the game necessary and you're left with no depth to the games mechanics that while stylish in combination with the extensive length of the game I feel do not justify the purchase of G.O.R.E on their own.
