Pretty much a perfect survival-horror experience.

I was a huge fan of the Resident Evil series in my younger days on the Playstation and N64, but had long thought the series had passed me by in the direction it went starting with RE4. Playing this remake of one of my all-time favourite games made me realize what I really liked about those older games and gave me a deeper insight into what was missing for me in the newer games. It wasn't the clunky controls or fixed camera angles that made those old games great in their day. What made them great was the feeling of fear you would experience collecting ammo and key items and having to carefully plan your next move to your next objective. Do I have the right items? Is this the optimal path to the next objective? Should I carry an extra healing item, more ammo, or leave space for a new key item? Every time you ventured out of a safe/save room, you were unsure if you were going to make it. Every new area came with the fear that a new monster could surprise you and get you. Even retracing your steps was scary, because there was always a chance a new enemy would jump from that suspiciously placed window you walked by safely several times earlier. There is a constant feeling of dread and paranoia. And just when you start to feel at-ease with an area, you move on to something new. Every decision felt like it could be your last. This is made all the more exciting when the world you explore is meticulously laid out to allow for the player to come up with strategies for avoiding enemies and optimizing your limited resources. Sometimes a plan works and you get a huge feeling of satisfaction, while other times you're left defeated as you watch your character meet a gruesome end. The design of the police station and mansion weren't very realistic, but that wasn't the point, it was about exploring a large interconnected labyrinth and making the player feel small and helpless while also giving little injections of satisfaction when you'd find a clever way to just barely make it to that new safe room.

The RE2 remake shows you can include engaging gunplay/action and modern controls, while still preserving the horror and magic of the classic games.

Can't recommend it enough. My game of the year for 2019.

I'm not sure how people can dislike DLC policy so much as to ignore the obvious quality of this game. This game is excellent. I've been playing Total War since the first Rome game and this is easily the most polished experience since Shogun 2. It's also a better game than Shogun 2.

Though I'm usually all about the historical settings, the quality of the presentation and gameplay here just sucks me right into the world of Warhammer. It runs much smoother than Attila on the same computer AND looks and sounds better. It's also much more stable and a lot less glitchy. The campaign hits the PERFECT balance between freedom and guided storytelling. I never feel locked in and I'm able to create my own meta narrative but the quests and events add just enough to make me feel like I'm playing in a larger living world. The strategy is completely freshened up with all these fantasy units. I'm finding it very fun playing against different factions and races and trying to come up with the right troop combination and tactics to face each unique challenge.

All in all, this is quickly becoming my favourite Total War game. I will invest in some DLC when they go on sale.
