It's been 12 YEARS since we had a true Ace Combat title. 12 asininely long years it took to really return to Strangereal. A part of me will always be salty about that, but damn if it wasn't worth the wait. Ace Combat 4 is the game that really kicked my love of gaming into overdrive, Ace Combat 5 is consistently in my top three games of all time, and 7 is really living up to that legacy.

My greatest fear before plopping down 84.99 for the LE was that nostalgia was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ me over, and that my experience with Assault Horizon (the most disappointing game I've ever played) was how I would react to Ace Combat for the rest of time. I've been proven wrong, handily.

The game is gorgeous, engaging, and refreshing. The combat feels tight, the environments distinct, and the moment to moment gameplay switches things up so frequently that I have not once grown bored.

I have to main complaints, one is that allies are completely useless and you cannot interact with them at all. Ace Combat 6 really made your allies feel useful, and gave you a reason to destroy as many targets as possibly as quickly as possible with the support function. Hell, I'd settle for the "yes/no" approach of 5. Second, the game feels slightly unchallenging at times. The only time I ever feel overwhelmed is when fighting a huge number of enemies all spamming missiles, and those moments are rare and moderately frustrating, as opposed to challenging.

The story is hitting all the right beats, the writers expertly allow the player to make accurate predictions to lull you into a false sense of "I know what's going on here," only to throw a curveball the next cutscene. Unfortunately, my only other major complaint is that your wingmen and allies are somewhat forgettable. I don't feel nearly as attached to them as I did to Wardog, Pixie, or Shamrock.

All in all I'm loving this, as a return to Ace Combat, it's damn-near perfect. If you've ever liked an AC game before, buy this now.

If you love Rick and Morty and won't miss 30 dollars, this is an easy buy.

But if you love Rick and Morty and also love having 30 dollars, this is not an easy buy.

Basically a slightly enhanced Job Simulator with a loose plot equivalent to whichever Rick and Morty episode you like the least and some really bare-bones puzzles. There are plenty of good references and collectables, and yet almost zero replayability.

I really expected more from Roiland and Owlchemy, since I absolutely love Job Simulator and Accounting.

If you MUST play this game now, go ahead and buy it, but if you can stomach to wait for a price drop, do so.

Early Access Review
When I first heard of StarMade, I was excited, yet weary. I have often let my emotions run amuck when I encounter a feature list as enormous and tantalizing as the one I read before I began to play this game for free. To whet your appetite, here's a small portion of features already included in the alpha release.

  • Build voxel spaceships/stations/settlements of all conceivable shapes or sizes using an absolutely enormous number of blocks.
  • Easy-to-use interface and building mechanics which make construction an enjoyable experience.
  • Full multiplayer functionality including factions, player-created economies, and servers which can be customized and modded to create a unique experience on a server by server basis.
  • A nearly endless universe containing entire galaxies and solar systems all laced with an unchartable amount of planets, asteroids, space stations, pirates, wormholes, and intrigue.
  • PVP and PVE combat, fight from the helm of your capital ship, cockpit of a fighter, or on foot using a huge and customizable selection of weapon systems against an enemy faction, space pirates, and crabs
  • Modding support.
  • Immensely detailed crafting system.
  • A full set of explorable, player created content and a community which constantly puts out a huge number of original masterpieces and recreations, from TIE Fighters to the UNSC Infinity.
  • A development team which truly listens to the community and implements player ideas and creations into the game
  • A roadmap which includes programmable AI, AI creature support, a player-driven quest system, and so much more.

You can build whatever you want, you can fly what you build through a truly endless world, you can do so with large amounts of people.

I can't think of another game that claims to do this much and actually delivers. Best of all devs consistently release new features and quality of life patches that constantly reinvigorate my interest in this game.

If building your own spaceship and conquering the galaxy sounds at all appealing to you, I recommended you try this FREE alpha version of a fantastic game which is not even near completion yet. You will not be disappointed.
