I always loved the Total War series for the amazing realtime combat but the intrigue on the campaign map was somewhat of a disappointment to me. In CK2 however I can have the best of both worlds as the battles are usually very decisive and a single major clash can turn the tide of an entire conflict and behind the conflict is usually a complicated set of relationships and claims that you acquired from marrying your daughters and sons off to the other crowned heads of Europe. As a history enthusiast this game is easily one of my all time favourites. The learning curve is very high on this game though and after countless hours of gameplay I still haven't figured it out completely. But that just keeps the game fresh for a long time.

If you want good medieval style fighting with tactics, this is as good as it gets.
