At this point in the previous game (Vermintide 2) I had about 1000 hours of game play, I have 61 hours on this game as of time of writing and it was a grind that I stopped enjoying at hour 20.

Too much grind for too little reward, not enough variety in missions, equipment or enemies... the "Author enhanced" story was just a bait and switch, replaced by a plot that could fill a sheet of A4... if you wrote in large letter font... in crayon..

My advice? Go and play Vermintide 2 instead, it is like Darktide... but good...

Caveat here... I refunded the game and called it quits pretty early on... so this review is very subjective... I know a fair few people who love the aspects that turned me away... so this review is pretty niche..

I'm one of those people who grew up on Rebelstar, Laser Squad & UFO Enemy Unknown... and loved those turn based games, and since having 5 hours worth of emergency heart surgery... my brain and I have a troubled relationship and being able to process many things at the same time is difficult and causes stress and anxiety.

So what I HOPED I would get was the ability to play this game in a sort of hybrid mode, where the gameplay would freeze and I could decide what I wanted each member of the squad to do (Balders Gate 3 style) and then move back into real time to see how badly things could go.

Instead on the brief time I played it was all about stealth and quick decisions and stress... and the more I looked into this game the more I realised that the stress just got more intense as you went on.. I wanted to be able to drink a coffee in one hand and do everything at my own pace, this game is the opposite. I was not having fun.

And when I watched a long playthough done by a youtuber (Christopher someone..) I also saw that the game gate kept you and hid important gameplay options and fixes from you until hours and hours in... it felt that this was done just to mess with you... and the Ticking clock "you have 19 days until the planet is nuked" timer made me want to punch the TV when I saw it on the playthrough.

I would LOVE a version of this game where you can freeze time whenever you want for as long as you want... quicksave whenever you feel like it, disable the stress/infest timer and just enjoy the gameplay & story (story is pretty good to be honest! - kinda copied from the old comics but still good)... but instead you are dragged into a "racing of the bulls" situation where you are forced to act against your own judgement constantly...

It is a pass from me.

After picking up a 2nd Hand Oculus Quest 2 off a friend for half its retail cost, I realised after tinkering for a day or two that the ONLY reason I had got it was to play Half-Life Alyx. 16 hours.... I got a Quest 2 (cheap admittedly) for 16 hours of game.

VR games make me motion sick very easily, and this terrified me about this game.

I started playing and I picked the "teleportation in a straight line forward option" and I found that this method prevented me from getting ill, but the teleporting also makes the mid and later game harder as I struggled to dodge and manoeuvre during the combat scenes, so I started on normal, but had to drop it down to "easy" as it progressed.

The game is amazing though, it is a brilliant piece of storytelling, and I'm glad I played it... Best PC game I have played in the last year or two!

While this is a "synthetic" Benchmark and there has been rampant shenanigans by pretty much all of the major vendors trying to nobble the results in their own favour... it still is a useful tool to get a general grounding in the total power of your system... you know that in the basic Firestrike if you score 3500 you can roughly match an Xbox one, 4500 to match a PS4, 7500 for a PS4 Pro, 9000 to compete with an Xbox One X... and you need around 18000 to 20000 points to match the PS5 / Xbox Series X... it is a handy tool

The Game is amazing, the way I feel I have been treated by the company is awful.

Installing invasive spyware on my system without even asking my consent? Is the CEO of Bethesda related to Jimmy Savile at all?

Betrayed and mistreated... that is how I feel, and I cannot recommend anymore

CS:GO Review
While I was more of a fan of Counterstrike Source then this as the numbers on the teams have been reduced to make it an eSport, the game is FAST and fun and frantic... and the right price!
It is a shame about the number of hackers, but they themselves make me chuckle and mock them so it is not a big deal..

Very Enjoyable and addictive Co-Op title that takes everything good from the first Vermintide game and tightens up the Melee combat to make it very visceral and satisfying.

It does take a different path to the original, Vermintide was a game that was 80% skill based and the rest was altered by the gear you collected and crafted. With Vermintide 2 the balance is closer to 60% skill, with the rest as a mixture of career progression and gear.
This means that the difficulty curve is pretty steep for new players, but if you can keep at the game for a few hours your chosen character will quickly gain in power and gear so that the it becomes more natural and you start to feel more like an adventurer and hero and less like a red shirt from Star Trek.

The only cons are that you will have seen and learned all the main maps after 50 hours of player, but as of writing I'm nearly 500 hours in, and I'm still having fun. ESPECIALLY if you can find a close knit group to play with with voice comms, makes the game 10x better.

The price is also very very reasonable too..

NO 4K support??? really?!?

I can't even get the main menu to work properly on my 4k monitor/1080GTX as where the game "senses" the curser is nowhere near where the visible cursor is on screen..

Didn't even get a chance to play the game which I was looking forward too... Submitted for a refund, let me know when you have patched this into a working state for 4k monitor users

At first playing this game I was unimpressed, a left 4 clone I thought, but the more you play it the more you realise how deep the game really is!!

The combat is subtle and requires a great deal of learning and is VERY satisfying to play, it is pretty, it has plenty of variety, it has personal and equipment progression and development.

And the DLC is a good price and adds a good amount to the game too.

I WAS waiting for L4D3 to come out... but no longer as this IS L4D3!! buy it, play it.. and give it a few hours.. amazing title.

We use this game to "break the ice" at LAN parties and it is great for that... people get turned off by the grpahics, but after playing for 20 minutes people get really into it and have a great time!

A few of us have sent the young creator the £4 for Gold accounts, the only adavntage of the gold account is to make the game slightly easier while playing in gold games..
