Absolute Cinema.

as you can tell by my gameplay hours from the first 9 days of release, this game certainly lived up to the long awaited return of the Budokai Tenkaichi series after 17 years. The gameplay genuinely has more depth than almost every other 3 dimensional fighting game out there with all of its available mechanics, and unlike some other games, it provides a wide variety of defensive options rather than being a race to whoever can pull off the best combo first wins. In the first few days, playing through the training mode where the game teaches you all the possible moves you can do felt like a larger information dump than some MOBA patch drops. During combat, I felt like I had to be two steps ahead of the opponent, and if i lost my full focus for less than half a second, I'd get punished. The story mode is no joke either, in terms of difficulty AND quality of the unique story elements. There are some crazy ones that twist the story in ways you really won't expect! That, combined with some of the fights being genuinely tough--you definitely can't mash one button mindlessly for hours--leads to a very engaging experience where your brain is very active all the way through.

Although I'm a Dragon Ball fan myself, I will admit that on certain other dragon ball titles I would've had a hard time recommending them to a non-dragon ball fan, especially if the game wasn't on sale. But for Sparking Zero, I really think you could enjoy the gameplay even if you're unfamiliar with the Dragon Ball universe. All of this is why I was comfortable pre-ordering the Ultimate Edition (despite the rather intimidating pricetag in Canadian dollars).

If you do choose to purchase the game, I hope to enjoy some of the custom battles you create :D Have fun!
