It's free so it's worth a try, but the game just doesn't feel good. Building is useless except as a distraction or traversal a la fortninte, gunplay feels bad, and the artstyle is uninspired and maps unfun. It needs a lot of help. On the bright side it gets regular development, so that's a plus.

This game is pleasant, but lacking. A tentative recommendation.

Having got it on sale for around $5, I sort of feel like it was worth it for that price. Deserts of Kharak looks and functions well enough, and I had fun. However, the campaign is somewhat simple. Resource collecting is a slow and frustrating affair, which can severely limit your unit production unless you take the tedious route of spending an extra ten minutes at each resource node, traversing the map and ignoring objectives. And unlike the Homeworld games, there's no auto resource collection at the end of a mission. This feels like a game where you're meant to pump out lots of units to counter the hordes of ai, but you can't afford to in most situations. Even if you've played the Homeworld games, if you haven't read all the lore on a wiki, you'll find yourself going "Hmm, ok sure" to most of the story events. One plot point was super obvious and telegraphed. The final mission wasn't very fun either. You gain control of an orbital laser with a long cooldown, and gameplay is composed of slowly chipping away the enemy carrier's health as you get swarmed and can't replace your losses due to earlier factors. Voice acting was good except for one character who seemed pretty phoned in.

Perhaps most frustrating other than resources, was a lack of RTS keybinds. You can set control groups, and select all military units with F2, and that's about it. In Homeworld you can do a drag select that only selects military units, which is super helpful for straining out specific units from among noncombatants. Not so here. There's also no specific unit type selection, which can slow you down as you try to double click the right unit from among a horde of similar units, unless you already have them grouped, in which case you can click the large group from a panel. It's workable, but the point is it's not as fluid as it needs to be.

Disappointingly, multiplayer is entirely dead. From videos it actually looks enjoyable. I didn't try quick matching, but the lobby didn't have a single game going and only 6-8 people shown as active with zero chat activity. You can join a specific Discord, but nothing else is running if you don't want to jump through that hoop.

Overall, this game is a pleasant, if not ideal experience. It's not bad per se, but it is lacking. $5 is about the limit where I start to feel I didn't get my money's worth. If you had to choose, I'd definitely get the Homeworld Remastered collection instead.

A great game well worth the price. The devs never try to squeeze money out of you or gate off content. There is plenty to do and all the season passes are free. After the season ends the cosmetics go into rotation as loot. Dwarves don't get enough love. Fun co-op gameplay with lots of flavor.

Bungie has made some poor decisions.

A fun, simple game. It's based on trying to add compatible buildings close to each other to increase your score, not really a city building game. It has a relaxing artstyle. Good for 20 minute breaks.

There are rumblings in the North, a dark tide of chaos that only the blood of mortals can stop.

In Total War: Warhammer, you can play as any of a multitude of races ranging from hearty Dwarves to rampaging Greenskins. Each one has a unique playstyle and army roster, some focusing on aggressive, low armored troops that rush enemy lines, others relying on pounding artillery and skirmishers to obliterate their foes before the battlelines meet. It's a world of carnage and mayhem.

As a Total War title, I find it to be the best entry yet in many respects. Many features are streamlined, and it's easier than ever to maneuver your units around the battlefield. I often found it frustrating to manage food and population constantly in the older titles, and now you only need to worry about income and growth for building settlements.

Some people feel certain elements should have been left in the series. There is no longer a family tree system, sieges are simplified compared to the sprawling maps of the older games, and population, food supply, and some other elements are reduced or removed. These subtractions might seem regrettable, but in many ways Total War has become streamlined with their removal, now easier to access for newcomers.

From a fantasy perspective, I love Total War: Warhammer. I was a newcomer to the franchise, knowing little to nothing, but the game drew me in. Each race is memorable and thick with lore. The excitement from seeing a unit of huge Minotaurs diving into puny swordsmen comes fresh each time. Rare is the game that lets you explore fantasy monsters and armies so intensively, watching them collide in a furious melee. Creative Assembly has done a great job doing all of the different races justice, pulling out the tiniest of details.

As far as enjoyment, content, and pricing, this game is worth it. It definitely has the content to justify $60. There are tons of mods in the workshop, affecting gameplay or unit skins or even entire faction reworks, allowing you to customize to your heart's content. There are several DLC packs, running around $10-$15 when not on sale. The majority are packed with content, adding new units, legendary lords, and quest battles. Only one or two (Chaos and Beastmen), have sparked some disagreement about their value. However, Creative Assembly has done a great job continually updating and adding free content, so this is less of an issue now. The best part is that even if you don't buy the DLC, all of the DLC races will still be around fighting in the campaign, so only your multiplayer experience will be lacking the new content. Multiplayer itself is a little barebones, but it's not too difficult to find matches. This game has hundreds of hours of playtime, and is definitely worth your purchase.

Heroes and Generals is a game with both positives and negatives.

The positives: There aren't many ww2 games out there, much less free to play. The semi-auto rifles are extremely pleasing to fire, and feel very meaty. It's quite enjoyable to shoot people in this game as a result.

The negatives: Much of your time is going to be spent walking or riding bikes to your objectives. The game has a low time to kill, anywhere from 1 to 4 shots with the starting rifle, that you will be taken out often, and have to make the long trek back to the capture points. I have had the game freeze mid-match for me several times, which is strangely cleared up by ending the game window and relauncing from the mission window. The battles can be very one-sided if your generals do not deploy armor or air to counter the enemy, as the basic infantryman has little to no tools to combat armor, without spending a lot of your ingame money to buy new weapons such as the bazooka.

All in all, it's a fun game. The bugs can be frustrating, and battles can be hopeless. I'd recommend downloading, but don't put too much hope in the game.

One of the best games I've tried. It offers a good mix of strategy, teamwork, and skill. Although there is a decent learning curve, and some of the players can be inexperienced or rude, there is at least 200 hours of gameplay in it.
