A brilliant take on Star Wars combat and lore. Force powers, deflection, blocking and lightsaber fighting all feel amazing and the cool souls-like twist is a great addition to the mainly melee focused combat. It also fills a little gap in lore I don't know in terms of the post republic galaxy which was cool. Totally recommend it.

There's nothing quite like making a species, choosing their ethics, civics and government type and just acting out their civilization across a few centuries, going from exploring a galaxy which feels more alive with each dlc to wars and diplomacy and big crisis which threaten the entire galaxy. This is one of my favourite games of all time, and I've never played anything else quite like it in terms of immersion. Even though Paradox games get pretty inaccessible to new players in terms of cost after they've released a few dlc I would fully recommend giving it a go and buying the dlc on sale.

So I pre-ordered this game for 50 usd and bought the expansion pack for 50 usd which adds up to like 133 australian dollars, and with a lackluster graphical design, poor choices regarding how the aliens integrate into gameplay (they're just barbarians but slightly more dangerous at the beginning and really ♥♥♥♥ later on), the expansion adding basically nothing useful to most of the civs, and really bad diplomacy/trading options and interface, I can solidly say it wasn't worth it. There are positive aspects to the game, the affinities and the quest system are both really interesting ideas and I hope they find some way to add quests to civ 6, but besides that beyond earth is a very over-priced game. Maybe buy it on sale (it's like 14usd at the moment) if you're a bit bored of civ 5.
