It’s not about how many hours you play: it’s about the stories you experience. And this one was worth every minute.
A beautiful, tightly focused game without the usual bloat of an open world.
Thanks.

short review:
Waiting F(l)o(o)r Matchmaking - 3 Minutes and typical UE5 frame spikes ♥♥♥♥.

"Oh, you decided to shoot at an enemy, let me pause the game for a second, because ♥♥♥♥ you"
~UE5

long review:
This is my first Killing Floor game so I can’t say how it compares to previous titles.

But after about 1.5 hours of playing I gotta say it’s fun, especially with friends. There’s definitely a solid and entertaining core here, fun gore, fun weapons, fast(ish), good sound design etc.
Still, at this point in time. I cannot recommend the game.

1. Matchmaking and the whole multiplayer setup are just bad right now.
Even though there’s crossplay between Xbox, PC, and PS5, matchmaking takes forever. The hub base also feels clunky and slow.
This worked for Vermintide 2... and it makes sense in a game like Helldivers 2, with an ongoing grand campaign lead by a Game Master, spanning several years.

but here: Just let me get through the settings quickly please.

And when you finally find a group after minutes of waiting there's a good chance you'll get dropped into an already ongoing wave which means more waiting. Right now it feels more like Waiting Floor than Killing Floor.

2. Now for performance
It’s on Unreal "The bloat" Engine 5 and I seriously hate how ♥♥♥♥ that engine is. It doesn’t matter how powerful your rig is. You will get random massive frame spikes no matter what.

I’m running this on a 9800X3D with an RTX 5080, Gen 4 NVMe, and 64GB RAM. Fresh Windows 11 install with no background apps.
The game runs at 120 FPS until it randomly tanks for a second or two and then jumps back up. It’s super annoying, especially in a fast paced MP shooter.

If you’ve played any other UE5 game you probably know exactly what I mean. Maybe it gets smoother the more you play but honestly UE5 just sucks.

This is your Warhammer 40K power fantasy come to life, where you’re not just a space marine—you’re a walking, talking, heretic-shredding machine in a Hollywood blockbuster that forgot to turn off the explosions. With epic cinematic moments in the single-player campaign and a co-op mode that lets you bring your buddies along for the carnage, it’s basically group therapy but with more chainswords. Nothing says teamwork and friendship like dismembering heretics side by side—because why bond over brunch when you can bond over bolter fire?

Currently in a terrible technical state.
I am not complaining because I have to turn down settings, but because when doing so:
The game never feels smooth and good to play.

This game started out great, and there is still a lot to appreciate. The ongoing campaign is engaging, the storytelling works well, and the satirical universe remains one of its strongest elements.

Unfortunately, the gameplay has shifted from enjoyable to frustrating.

Enemies have become more annoying than challenging, the weapons no longer feel satisfying to use, and the missions often feel repetitive or tedious.

And the worst part: It is getting worse!

Immortal Empires is a lot of fun.
But you need to own all three games to get access.

New World is at its heart an old school MMO. It relies on people setting their own goals, to find groups via chat, the server community to organise worldboss runs and many more "old" mmo tropes.
And that is actually great and feels fresh again after the unstoppable rush of soloplayer focused themepark mmos that dominated the market for such a long time. But it also means that there isn't much you can do solo once you hit max level with the exception of resource farming.

Even if you are interested in this kind of old mmo experience: New World has many problems that prevents it from excelling as a sandbox game.
An unbalanced player economy, an incredibly boring grindfest of a crafting system that is mostly obsolete because of the looting system and most importantly: An inapt development team. The game is now out for two months and every single week new problems are being introduced, important game systems disabled and the game gets more "grinde heavy" by the month.
The Trading Post is more offline than online at this point in time, which is troublesome in a game without NPC shops that 100% relies on a player driven economy. An important crafting profession is no longer allowed to trade or sell items because there was a duping exploit present and instead of fixing it, the developers decided to exclude the profession from the game (three weeks ago). Certain mobs with important high level resources are no longer harvestable for two weeks now.

And much more.

As much as I see potential in the game: Stay away, it is in a terrible, mostly frustrating state.

Clearly inspired by the classic X-Wing and Tie-Fighter games. Veterans will feel right at home, especially with a Joystick.
Unfortunately the game isn't in a good technical state. Despite everything reporting that it is running at a high FPS, it feels unresponsive, stuttery and like a mess.
