Galactic Paragons is another great DLC offering for Stellaris.

"So, what does GP give you?"
New 'Council Mechanics', New Dynamic Leader customisation through a whole new suite of Traits, new Galactic Heroes (the 'Renowned' and 'Legendary' Leaders; the former being very good, the latter being ASTOUNDING) including the 'Veteran' and 'Destiny' traits system; the new 'Under One Rule' origin (letting you play as Jimmy "The God Emperor of Mankind" Space (or your own homebrand, non-copyright infringing variant)); 8 new Civics; 2 new Tradition Trees; and 6 new Achievements; and a few bits of new art and story content. That's a perfectly fine DLC offering; it has an unfair and inaccurate representation as "The Leader DLC", but it is more than that too.

"So why does this DLC get so much flakk?"
So many of the reviews for Galactic Paragons (GP) are actually reviews of Stellaris's 3.8 patch; the two aren't strictly the same, however. As we all know, once a ball gets rolling on sour opinions and negative preconceptions, they can be very difficult to stop, and they often fail to account for new and updated realities. This is very much the case with GP and the Stellaris Leader changes.

The leader change of 3.8, and the additional features, did not make the game worse. A lot of people were very upset, as some people always are in change. Previously, Leaders were very mundane, but unlimited; GP & 3.8 reversed that. For instance, a lot of people didn't like that you can't crank out Scientists to explore the galaxy now, conveniently overlooking that you can get Admirals to help out with it.

While the dynamic Leader levelling system was introduced to the vanilla game in 3.8, GP lets you really take advantage of it, taking a random effect in the vanilla game and letting you direct it. This makes Leaders a lot more unique, and a lot more valuable. Now they are far more significant, far more powerful, but for balance, a fair degree rarer.

"Is the DLC good?"
Yes. It gives you new tools to really add depth and character from your Leaders, enhancing the personalisation and the feel of the game, and allowing for some powerful builds.

"Is the DLC worth buying?"
Yes, for the above reasons. I consider it second only to the Utopia DLC in essentialness; it really does open up so much, both mechanically and flavourfully.

"Have there been teething troubles since 3.8?"
Almost certainly yes, though many of those have since been ironed out, and by all accounts the last of them will be in the forthcoming 3.10 patch. GP & 3.8 have provided a new baseline for Stellaris's leaders which is being iterated on and fine-tuned, but not re-worked again.

"So what's the problem?"
There isn't one! Get this DLC pack and enjoy more Stellaris in yo' Stellaris.

I have so many criticisms of this game - which is a shame, as C&C (both the original, and Red Alert) were gems of my childhood. The Remastered Edition looks pretty, but behind the shiny new graphics is a frustrating mess of attrociously bad AI, limited tactical options, and incredibly frustrating gameplay elements which combine to ruin the gaming experience.

My biggest criticisms:

-No waypoint movement options
-No creating of patrol loops
-Terrible unit AI pathfinding
-VERY short engagement and weapon ranges
-No production unit rally locations
-No way of knowing when your units are in 'Guard Mode' or not. Not that it really does anything anyway. Enemies have to practically walk right past your own in order to respond.
-Dumb targetting prioritisation on your units, requiring either intense micromanagement or incredible numbers of assets. Your units actively work against your plans.
-ASTOUNDINGLY short build radius. This makes it a nightmare to get defenses in place.

Combined, these add up to the game simply not being fun to play - in either Original or Red Alert flavours. It's with great sadness that I call this game BAD and say I do not recommend it. I'll be sticking with OpenRA instead.
What a shame.
