First of I feel the plot of this one is probably the most complex one giving the player a tenth of information through each character which makes it feel so overwhelming and lose interest the deeper in. This is also due to the fact that they've decided to go with even MORE protagonists then last time which imo made the game longer than it had to be. Haruka's part was fun for like ten minutes and then I realized I had to do the same songs 30 times over. It was a nice change from the constant beat'em up style of gameplay but in reality it's just a glorified karaoke minigame. Shinada felt like a rushed character trying to find someone to replace Tanimura so I didn't really get attached to him that much. Also with the Tojo Clan's only formidable enemy being the Omi Clan to spice it up I guess they had to make this overly complicated plot to make sure it wasn't just a re-run of 2's story.

Plot aside though, this game has so MUCH content. From arcades with more games to two different types of fishing to each character's side story (taxi driver, hunter, idol, and baseball) there was so much even if you weren't going for a 100% run you definitely could see how much more content was put into this one compared to previous entries.

The settings are also multiplied having a distinct city aside from Kamurocho which gives the player so much more to explore. I feel Fukuoka was the best of the new areas seeing how vibrant the city it really made it feel alive.

Gameplay wise each character has their own niche which gives players a distinct fighting style. Some are definitely stronger (Kiryu and Saejima) which makes playing as the others feel like you just changed the difficulty especially in the Coliseum which was brutal on Akiyama and Shinada at certain fights. Each character also has an alternate mode only being usable in Heat Mode which was interesting and felt like the set up for Extreme Heat Mode but some had their cons. Akiyama's alt mode only worked if you could knock them up but you can't do it on bosses or enemies who block or if you accidentally do a heat mode. I feel for the sake of both story and gameplay they should've just stuck to two protagonists being Kiryu and Saejima similar to how it was in 0 so you could get invested in each of their stories more.

QoL changes were added to like not having your Coliseum health being tied to your actual health so if you accidentally failed a Breakout stage you wouldn't be walking around at 1 mph. The yellow health bar was also a nice addition giving the player more room for eating food and giving you a buff along with the additional health.

100% percent wise there wasn't anything too difficult imo just tedious tasks and careful planning and you have a long but clear way through. Amon was annoying for Shinada only because he would spam his parasol move, a move being difficult to fully dodge and also making his invincible. Kiryu's Amon was just a mashup of everything but after a couple of TD's hes nothing. Minigame completions aren't too bad with cheat items coming in once again to completely skip over roulette and mahjong entirely (the non-Western gambling games are still annoying though). Ultimate Matches in this game felt completely unnecessary as well the only ones that really were memorable were the annoying ones funnily enough only with Shinada involved having the battle where damage is only dealt with weapon drawing and his run away from the forklift, yup the forklift sequence where you can't even see where you're going haha

TD is still king and they gave it to Saejima :D (makes sense with whats on his back) and kinda Akiyama but his kind of sucks compared to the others.

Combat is so much better than in 3 they actually do more than just block!

Story-wise though i felt the villains weren't as good as 3. Mine wasn't the most perfect villain but he was way more well written compared to these ones: corrupted cops. This is such a minor incident compared to other entries where top families duke it out. Whenever the Tojo Clan is not facing the Omi it just feels like such a one sided battle seeing as they don't even need more than Kiryu to wipe the floor with them.

NPCs were cringe some were claiming to be the "mahjong master" when I'm literally the majhong master.

The protagonist's all had different fighting styles which I had to get used to but later felt more comfortable. I really liked their decision to put Kiryu last as you already know the ins and outs of his style and gave the spotlight to the other characters to introduce them into the series. They all had their little niches which I enjoyed Saejima being able to grab heavies, Tanimura being able to not get hit at all and have instant heat actions at the end of rush combos and Akiyama have a really good rush combo.

100% for this one is more on the easier side with a lot of achievements from 3 popping up except pool is actually better this time around. Only cringe part is you have to beat the game three times but that's just more of a tedious thing rather than a skill requirement.

Overall, pretty solid entry with the introduction of new characters.

Tiger Drop is still king btw.

Blocking is so cringe.

Tiger Drop is here though so everything's okay. Story is alright kinda mega boring when you're doing anything orphanage related but besides that the Kamurocho side of the story is great. Kiryu trying to move on with a fresh start is something expected as he's been through so much with the Tojo Clan and might want a change of pace. Personally, I feel they introduce too many antagonists into the plot as by the end of the game they would appear and I've completely forgot about them. Mine is similar to Kiryu in upbringing but what separates them is the presence of Kazama throughout Kiryu's life. He's a good villain and is the most memorable character out of the entire game.

Also for the 100% I thought Minigame Master meant playing each minigame at least once, it is not it is very much not. Pool is unplayable with the slightest hint of movement completely ruining your shot. UFO Catcher can take hours, and Darts coming from Kiwami 2 feels awful but you get used to it.

Overall, a downgrade in the engine feels so irritating considering you were play with 6's earlier but it is understandable why Kiwami 3 doesn't exist as if they did that I feel they would have to come with Kiwami 4 since both games came out a year after each other.

Tiger Drop will never not be the best thing to exist.

This game is fun.

Its movement advanced from the first game heavily improving the flow of how you travel across the city and I think if you played the first game or want a parkour game this is it.

On the other hand most of the game's other mechanics are absolutely unnecessary. WHY are there 600+ collectibles they don't even give you anything cool its just there to be there.

The story was set up from the first game but they took it and threw it away the whole point of the first game was to reunite with Kate and clear her name but we just reboot the series making her an enemy setting the whole plot pack when instead they could've made an interesting story about the aftermath of the first game.

This game is fairly cheap though and still has a better movement system which to be fair is the main core of the game it's just annoying how they don't advance the series given the weak reboot and unnecessary open world that only has a ton of collectibles that give you nothing.

This is the sequel that the Yakuza franchise that shined on almost every aspect. With the introduction of the Dragon Engine players experience some many nice quality of life changes and plot lines that extend on the overall story.

QoL Changes
- Restaurants and minor spots alike now don't have a cutscene
- Restaurant Menus now don't limit you to one or two items per entry
- Inventory is now more than just a couple of rows having space for almost every item
- Accessories like the Card Finder don't take up armor slots so you can actually have armor in your slots

Gameplay
- Sotenbori is back giving a part of the series I felt was missing from Kiwami 1 along with the cabaret club. I loved the club minigame in 0 and the return of it here plus seeing how some of the old hostesses are now really feels great
- Majima Construction is a average mini game but its cool to recruit the Kamurocho NPC's along with Majima for a strategyish based game
- The removal of the styles I was kind of iffy about but I got used to it around the mid game and late late I just abused weapons
- Bouncer Missions are the replacement of Climax Battles and they're good BUT they are so many I mean so many. 70+ missions with half to 3 quarters being completely unnecessary.

Storyline
- Yakuza Kiwami 1's story felt more like a DLC to 0 but Kiwami 2 has a truly fantastic plot with the introduction of Ryuji Goda and expanding more on the Tojo Clan
- The Majima Saga is two steps higher in quality compared to the normal story considering its only 3 chapters and tugging on the heartstrings left from 0

they also nerfed TD sadge

To start off DL1 was a solid experience bringing elements from Mirror's Edge into another setting that justifies making an open world parkour game. But DL2 does not live up to a 2022 sequel it plays more like a game released in early 2018 it's outdated as a triple A game. I won't exaggerate and say it's a complete downgrade from the first game because it's parkour system is much better. DL2 takes elements from various other genres but isn't able to flesh out the mechanics that made them shine in other games. Along with problems I'll explain later and its $60 price I can't recommend anyone even DL fans to buy this game. If it was $30 and you wanted another open world with interesting movement I'd say it would be worth. I played on Normal and wrote this on Feb 8

Upgrades
- Combat Skills are useless except for Drop Kick, Stab, and Head Stomp. Some skills involve you targeting enemies while above them but prompts will most of the time not pop up resulting in you jumping off a high place and losing a chunk of health. There's also ranged weapon skills but throughout playing I never used a ranged weapon only tested it out once on an infected to see it do no damage.
- Parkour Skills are very fun and I would always spec stamina to not only have more stamina but access to skills. The only nitpick is that other games that involve climbing have most of these already implemented at the start so it feels annoying not having access to a basic function such as sliding without injecting multiple inhibitors.
- Blueprint upgrades make 0 sense. Instead of making them require an actual resource they need trophies which you get from killing zombies either rare ones or uncommon ones but you can't tell which ones are "uncommon". Why is a game centered around maneuvering and sneaking around the horde also forcing players to grind trophies. Wouldn't even be half as bad if literally anything else rewarded you with trophies i.e. side quests or challenges littered across the map. At least upgrading tools have you search for rare containers but the regular blueprints are annoying
- Weapons have durability, a system I'm not fond of but accept in terms of not just using 1 weapon throughout the entire game. The weapon system isn't too flawed as the game gives you an abundance of weapons to use and mod
- Clothing provides minuscule stat upgrades. The entire system feels unnecessary similar to God of War's armor system but at least GoW's armor looked cool and some sets would be worth their grind

Gameplay
- Combat is very basic and I mean very basic you've done it before numerous times nothing new. It's alright at least you can t-bag enemies that were being stupid i.e. ranged enemies that would always hit you whenever you tried to do anything or mini-bosses that thought they were Hercules or something. T-bagging someone regardless whether if it's a person or AI idc it'll always feel good. Overall, just bland.
- Parkour is fantastic I love games that give the feeling of soaring from point a to b having the player pick the fastest route while also utilizing the terrain around them is amazing. At times movement can feel clunky but once you get into a groove it's very enjoyable.
- Looting is 99% useless the only thing you might craft is medicine and throwing knives for quick stealth kills. While weapon upgrades are neat they don't take many resources. I only upgraded weapons on two occasions that's it. Its annoying as your gamer brain will make you loot everything even though it grants you practically nothing.
- Survivor Sense is for players to see what's important but has two major problems: sometimes it won't proc very frustrating and it won't outline every enemy sometimes and in dark areas results in you almost hugging an enemy in front of you
- Flashlight in cutscenes WILL TURN OFF something will occur in a dark area which you can't see or a character will say look at that but you can't.
- Side quests can be melted down to fetch quests most of them are get something for me, check on someone for me, or get someone for me maybe a few had some type of lore you'd be somewhat interested in
- The tools were underwhelming. The paraglider is nice to have once you get used to it but sometimes if you're slightly going too fast or press to deploy it too early you just take a lot of damage or just straight up die. I swear I've died more to the paraglider not working than I did fighting enemies. The grappling hook imo is a HUGE downgrade from DL1's hook. I expected a hook similar to Halo's where it would bring you to the place that you hooked instead it functions as a rope that you can swing from. There's no way to roam the map using it efficiently it's only meant for traversing specific parts of the story. DL1's was super fun to run around and make leaps you would never be able to without. The other tools are meh binoculars are your standard binoculars, the UV light is useless and the inhib detector is given so late in the game that you don't need it at that point.
- Side note of being forced to walk inside hub areas which is fine except for the fortress with Jack Matt its horizontally long compared to the Bazaar where its content is packed together. The fortress has a long line of shipping containers that drag on each time you visit.

Story (SPOILERS)
- Characters were weak in DL1. 2 is an improvement, instead of not caring for anyone I at least liked Lawan but that's it no one else. In 1 everyone was unmemorable and plain. 2's characters aren't completely unmemorable but everyone is generic having little backstory. Hakon has some development but that's due to him being shoved in every character's backstory. The Renegades are just typical bandits led by seemingly no one. The main villain Waltz is poorly written he waits until the last second while missiles are launching to reveal to Aiden that they were allies before Aiden's memory loss. This is a huge plot hole why doesn't Waltz try to talk to Aiden before trying to kill him granted he didn't know it was Aiden until half way through, they have a similar goal but instead Waltz decides to say nothing. His motives are clear and they're both trying to help Mia so why Waltz antagonizes Aiden is a mystery
- Choices were marketed to be a huge part of the game but in reality there's only 2 or 3 choices that effect the outcome. The struggle between giving a structure to a faction is irrelevant both factions don't care who you give what to
- Aiden's "condition" Stereotypical zombie troupe mostly non present throughout the game until towards the end. Every boss fight Aiden has episodes. I wouldn't mind if it made sense but every single story related enemy Aiden faces he breaks down without failure. Why don't major episodes happen when he's meeting with an ally or on his way to an area it just seems like a "Get Out Of Jail" card giving devs an excuse to place Aiden somewhere else. Some episodes where he blackouts randomly wakes him up near his objective. The story overall is average I may have missed lines in the story that would consolidate the plot in that case I'm sorry if I blamed a plot mishap on me missing something but my opinion is consisted of what I was shown during cutscenes and dialogue.

Overall, DL2 tries to identify itself as a sequel but fails to advance any mechanics of the old game imo, they tried to branch out with the "choices matter" route making the game lack focus. Along with the major success of DL1 it put fans expectations too high. But having the core mechanics of DL it offers something players can enjoy. I really liked DL1 and even this one although not the most innovative.

although I do agree that 0 is a stronger game overall yakuza fans cannot lie that kiwami introduced new concepts, improved and clarified weak points in zero, and also quality of life improvements especially for completionists.

New Concepts
- Tiger Drop
- Majima Everywhere (altough annoying towards the end it brings Majima into Kiryu's storyline from all the buildup within 0)
- Tiger Drop again because its Tiger Drop does anything else really need to be said

Improved Systems
- Cheat Items (Especially for 100% list some can even instantly get you certain tasks such as Haneman or fully completing blackjack)
- Heat Bar is revamped along with the introduction of the Climax Heat Gauge makes much more sense than the three random bars in 0
- Tournaments improved overall introducing rewards some actually necessary to become the best gamer in the world while also removing most of the unnecessary clunk in the previous entry
- MesuKIng SO MUCH BETTER THAN JCC

TD once more just for good measure
