Stellaris has always being my go to Space empire game, and while the new patch (2.0) brings changes I have to get use to I do love what they have done.
Flavour has being changed to fix stellaris biggest problem, wars, before 2.0 wars were a mess, defences were useless and deathstacks (the biggest navy you could make) were the best way to fight wars. With the most recent change wars have being changed to be more fluid, defences have being made useful, deathstacks are now a bad idea for any empire of reasonable size and dont work at war at all.
Their are currently a few bugs in some of the systems (or I am still learning the details) but on the whole the game works how I expect it to and is a massive improvement.
