I would give this game a "Mixed" rating if I could.
- The story is excellent, very compelling
- The gameplay essentially boils down to holding "W" and the occasional fetch quest. Not much subtance here
- A little bit on the pricey side ($13) for something that has a little over 1.5 hours of content.

Something I really appreciate is the complexity is just right for someone like me who isn't that into real-time strategy games. Overall, a great little game that's a nice change from "kill everything that moves" in their first game.

I picked up this game when it first launched and It definitely had potential but the utter lack of new content post-release has shown that this game failed to catch on and is now completely dead. It's fun for a couple rounds with a friend but the few characters it has means the gameplay gets stale fast.

Black Mesa manages to deliver a fantastic update to half-life's story that culminates in the beautiful Xen segment. This game was well worth the 15 year wait.

Definitely check out if you want a scary game that you want to play with friends.

If I went back to 2007 and told Garry that the thing scaring him enough to continue making gMod would be a failure in 5 years, I probably would've killed gMod then. That is the only good thing I have to say about this mod other than it's free; unlike Gmod, but you certainly get what you pay for, with there not even being a spawn menu, which is something that gMod has had for over a decade now. All joking and memes aside, This mod is not worth what gMod has been doing for years now.

I think this walking simulator is less of a game than it is an experience. The game focuses mainly on symbolism and artwork than anything, which I can respect. My only gripe is the graphics are a bit demanding, so be sure that you have a pc that's "kinda good" that was made within the last 5 years.

The narrator is funny and I definitely recommend you try and HEAVILY avoid spoilers.

Very fun but can be frustrating at times.

Edit 12/30/2024: I had less than 100 hours when I wrote this review nearly 3 years ago and now that I have 1900 hours at the time of writing -- the rest are on PS5 -- I still stand by this. Survivor gameplay is so much more fun when you're with friends and Killer gameplay can be fun if you wanna hunt down Survivors.

Edit 11/24/2025: Okay, this game has gotten so much worse for all players, I am really worried about the devs continual lack of support for one of the game's crucial roles. I still stand by what I originally wrote because it still has the capacity to be fun, but the balance team might need some balancing.
