A Once incredible game that gave me hundreds of hours of joy and countless hours of content to watch on youtube. Absolutely revolutionary titan of the industry that has since been neglected and relegated to unplayable casual games, only being saved by the strength of the community and their servers.

That's far and away the best part of this game - the Community.

VALVE! SAVE YOUR GAME!

Writing this review to correct a few statements i'm seeing across other reviews here.

You have not "beaten the game" in 3-5 hours. You might have finished each of the main missions ONCE in that time, but that does not constitute "beating the game".

Each mission is different - I've replayed one mission 3 times in a row, after failing the boss fight with some randoms, and had different missions picked every time. For example - the 3rd mission where you have to "pass the trial of strength" - can be multiple different missions: Lighting the Witchfyre Pyres, Stealing from the 6th Graders, Helping Jimbo find items to sell- and even further, the items and locations are different in every run as well.

To add on to this, After you beat the 3rd mission, you unlock free DLC via Henrietta which gives you access to unending zombie-survival style missions, AND after you beat the last mission of the campaign, you unlock Nichole, who allows you to take on extra challenges for other rewards, similar to HEAT in Hades.

Now for the Cons - Yes, the game is "short" but it's made with replayability in mind. Different card combos let you play in different ways and playing with friends massively increases what is viable versus playing solo where you basically need to run a healing ability and an escape. Having one person with a heal and a turret while a melee person runs the charge and gravity bomb is a blast. pun intended.

The options are a bit limited now - there are only 3 main melee weapons and 3 ranged weapons, but i expect more to be added eventually, and the cards you pick still allow you quite a bit of variety to how you play.

My single biggest complaint has to be the lack of a communication system of any kind. No voice, no chat - all you have are emotes, so unless you're playing people you already know in discord, it's pretty hard to communicate specific ideas like "I'm running these powerups" or "I need to run to the restroom". etc.

All in all - this is not multiplayer Stick of Truth or FBW, it's more of a hack and slash with some roguelike elements, but for the price, i think it's a fine game to pick up to play with a friend or two.

EDIT: Well, It seems we've been let down again. The new Snowball weapon is PAID DLC, so even though they're tossing us a few free cosmetic DLCs, the actual gameplay elements (which the game SORELY needs) are locked behind an additional paywall...

I had some solid hopes for this game, but it seems to be diving further into being a piece of trash. RIP.

Interesting idea, with a solid gameplay loop, but needs polish before being worth the $40+ Investment.

Random deaths to "unknown" - what? At least tell me what killed me.

Entirely too much stuff that slows player movement- mud, swamp, BUSHES, attacks from tiny enemies that the game swarms you with. You're going nowhere, slowly.

It feels REALLY bad to respawn- you have barely any control over where you actually start playing again, because someone else threw the grenade that indicates the drop location, so if they throw it, and run past it, as people often do - you spawn surrounded by enemies, just to get insta-gibbed. And the "control" over your descent is laughable, sometimes even going in the opposite direction of the WASD inputs pressed.

Weapon "unlocks" are all linear, tied to some kind of Battle-Pass-Type system where you have to spend points to level up, but you can only spend points on the tiers you have - so you have no choice in what you get - you just buy the same cosmetics and weapons as everyone else, to unlock the next tier of weapons. This is compounded by some upgrades just outclassing and replacing others, making the already railroaded choices irrelevant and obsolete. That new pistol you just got? The same damage as your last pistol, but with a bigger clip, more ROF and LESS recoil! How about this new Explosive Rifle? It's the exact same model as your starter, just with more damage and less recoil!

Trying to progress and upgrade your ship is also exceptionally punishing, gating upgrades behind "sample" collection, but dropping your samples when you die and spawning swarms of slowing enemies combined with medium/heavy units capable of one-shotting you, to ensure you can't get them back. And then to make it worse, the unlocks are fairly lackluster as well, considering the time and frustration investment.
"60 samples to cut 10% cooldown from your sentries" is pretty lackluster considering getting 60 samples will take you probably 15 missions or more if you're just starting out and/or playing solo.

Clearly not optimizd for 1440p yet, I barely get above 80fps with a 3070 on medium graphics, and you really feel the "medium" here too.

All in All - I'm looking forward to improvements here. The idea of working with players everywhere towards mutual progress is really interesting, and the variety in deployments/airstrikes is great, I just hope they put that same energy towards the weapon unlocks and ship upgrades.

Game has been out for 3.5 years and yet you still regularly clip through the ground and then get smacked for fall damage and die. Fix the game and i'll update the review.

An unforgiving, but incredibly fun experience - best enjoyed with friends. Be prepared to die early and often, but you'll learn something new and find new things to explore around every corner. Very mod friendly, and there are ways to ease the learning curve in the world settings as well.

If you're debating it, just do it. it's an incredible amount of content backed into a vicious little package. :)

If you're honestly reading a review about fallout new vegas at this point, you should just play the game. The sheer notoriety of the game speaks for itself. it's 12/10. perfect.

Solid co-op FPS, with character/account progression, tons of different weapons, different ways to upgrade your character and rng stats on weapons, item drops, etc to keep runs different and interesting. They regularly update the game and have continued to add new maps, weapons, scrolls, and make adjustments. If you've got a few friends and you want a new PvE FPS to play, definitely recommend.
