LONG LIVE DEMOCRACY.

A pillar of light was almost tarnished due to the corpo that is Sony, and with the votes founded by our voices and wallets as well as a little dev backing, we were able to bring back this little bastion of togetherness and cooperation. For Super Earth boys. We're so back, not that we ever left.

J♥♥♥♥ you Embracer Group. This game has been great and I loved what NWI had done coming from their humble beginnings, but yet here is another example of a greed driven corp swooping up another great studio and their products. Driving microtransactions where they need not be and cutting costs all in the name of profit and killing the brilliance that the devs were shooting for. The game still plays great, but what a fall from grace for NWI.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME OR COSMETICS AT THIS POINT. IF YOU HAVE IT, PLAY WHILE WE ALL CAN. YOU WILL ONLY BE LINING THE POCKETS OF THE C-LEVELS AND INVESTMENT COMPANY WHO KILLED THE STUDIO.

Wow. Just... wow. I've played Cyberpunk 2077 since the messy state of it's original launch (RIP the hilarious bug of Jackie shoving his iron into your skull to put the Relic in your head ). The patches in the beginning, slow rolling but CDPR, despite all the backlash of the bugs, glitches and other issues, worked steadily on improving the game. Things got to a better state. Still had some quirks here and there but nothing too major in my experience that was deal-breaking. Eventually came new perks, the Edgerunners anime and crossover patch, the transmog system, new apartments, and much more. Things were shaping up to be good and bring it more in line with the original portrayal and vision.

Now here we are. Update 2.0, which seems to have reworked most of the game into a more cohesive experience that shapes up to be much closer to the potrayal everyone was shown over the years. Gunplay now ties into the stamina system and how V reacts to recoil, emphasizing accurate bursts of fire to control recoil. Combat now no longer feels like you can just endlessly tank shot after shot because you've stacked 200 Bounce Backs or MaxDocs. They now recharge on a timer before reuse and you only get two to start (don't know yet if this changes later in the game as I've restarted just for the update). Grenades now do the same, although I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. Netrunners don't just exclusively hit you with Overheat anymore. They'll use Reboot Optics, Weapon Glitch, and trace your location through net-connected objects if you disappear mid-combat and are attempting stealth. They feel more like a priority target than the normal cannon fodder.

The vehicle combat feels great and has been an excellent experience so far. I personally appreciate the bit of auto-tracking while trying to drive and navigate just because of how the cars can handle. The police system now feel like they should have, chasing you down if you flee by car and patrolling the streets of NC.
The Cyberware overhaul has felt great so far, with the ability to upgrade your chrome should you stockpile enough crafting materials from broken weapons that enemies now drop or on corpses themselves. Also now the cyberware cap makes you feel like V really is growing in power and gaining a better grasp on their limits. I get not everyone might enjoy the change but I feel like it fits.

The transmog system isn't really a thing now because now the clothes you wear do not have bearing on your armor. Armor is now tied to your chrome. No longer are the days of having to become a clown then set an outfit to cover the goofy getup in the transmog system. Outfit creation and saving is still a thing though, so feel free to create street wear, combat, business casual or whatever the hell you see fit for the occasion and save em for later.

Looking back at pre-2.0, it felt like a solid vision that was meant to be a solid beta and groundwork for what they originally wanted, what they really wanted to show off to the public. Now, it feels like they're finally released the version they wanted to give us from the start and almost feels like a brand-new game. Granted, with such an overhaul, others have had a number of issues as there is bound to be. I've yet to run into any but I'll most likely update this review as I play further on my new save. Right now though, I cannot recommend enough to jump into Night City and see what it has to offer.

Edit 1: The first significant bug I've run into is car calling not working after a mission or gig. Simple save and reload but can be a bit annoying.

I didn't think flying a Frogfoot repeatedly into power lines while trying to do CAS runs with the cannon could be so much fun.

10/10, would create another multimillion rouble "accident" again.

Pretty much like being on an acid trip while playing Hitman mixed with schizophrenic undertones and surrealism

I wanted to like this so so bad, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. The amount of hype I had contributing towards taking on targets as 47 was massive, and I was hoping that IOI could pull it off even with it being their first true foray into the VR space. However, in its current state, it is so shoddy. It feels just a tad bit worse than basic FO4VR. Being forced to play stationary in VR when playing a standing character sucks so much potential immersion out of it. And then there is the controls shudder . Almost anything basic that you think you might be able to accomplish with gestures or whatnot is forced to an arbitrary control. Wanna open a door? Gotta press A, can't open it by the doorknob. Vaulting, A again; no potential for gripping the ledge and pushing yourself over it. Reloading your gun? Bound to a button rather than a physical reload by you.

Going back to the guns, the gunplay in its current state is god awful. Sights do not align to the true point of impact, such as with your pistol making the prospect of using them in the first place disencouraging. Then there is the two handed gun use. In order to stabilize two handed firearms, you only move your hand underneath the forward end of the weapon and you automatically grip it. I know its a weird gripe, but when trying to further the immersion, it is very offputting to have your left hand act as a robotic tool you have barely any control over. Also on that note, if you attempt to move your left hand while gripping a two handed weapon, it has ZERO effect on aiming. You only can use your right arm and hand to aim, further breaking the immersion and gunplay.

Finally, VR performance. I'm playing on an Oculus Quest 2 over Virtual Desktop. Most times, I can never tell if there is some sort of input lag or anything unless something intensive is going on over my network but those cases are rare. However, each and every time I try to move, there is a constant and noticeable delay between my input and moving by about half a second or so. I don't know why or how this is an issue as it is not caused by low performance. My system is running H3 at a point that is well above decent enough to take on the extra intensity of VR. I know I'm not the first person to have experienced this issue either based off some of the other reviews here.

All in all, I wanted this to be good. I really did and I know almost everyone else who bought this game wanted it to be too. However, in its current state, it just simply isn't. IOI, y'all need to take a step back, look at the issues brought up by the consumers and take a look into other popular VR games in order to identify what people like and want. Look towards Boneworks and Pavlov. Take the time to adjust things and get them to a place that brings immersion and fun to the forefront, not just simple functionality. Maybe talk with other VR devs and get their insight in order to bring to a point where VR mode is an excellent place to experience the World of Assassination trilogy in a new light. We'll be looking forward to what comes up, as long as strides are being made.

Ghostbusters, but it's Ghost Hunters with 4 people and the douchiness of Ghost Adventures. Great game though!
