My feelings after a single solo playthrough, that took me over 100 hours.

Truly amazing game- when I've first heard that Larian will work on BG3, I had mixed feelings- I strongly believe that DoS:2 is one of the best RPGs ever made, but changing a game with such strong nostalgic feel for many players from real time with pause to a turn based system could've went very wrong, and I wasn't sure if Larian was capable of creating a sequel to series that would feel different from what Divinity offered.

However, to say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement- the game is amazing. The voice acting, animations during dialogues, the graphics, soundtrack, it's all top of the shelf. Combat is rewarding, there are many ways to approach encounters (sometimes a fight that seemed nigh impossible with my gear turned out to be simple with proper usage of tools i had available to me from the beginning), as well quests having multiple ways to complete them.

The story is entertaining, and while some people might complain that it's extremely high stakes, personally I've liked the gravitas it gave to what my party was doing, and the decisions they've took had some actual impact on the gameworld and how the story shaped. The plot itself isn't the most innovative, but there were some twists I didn't expect, and I feel that the pacing of the story both made sense and let the plot unravel properly.

It's not flawless- there are some annoying journal entries that gave information or mentioned events that I wasn't privy to yet, inventory management is really underwhelming, and while companions are really well written in my opinion, romances form too quickly- too often you have dialogues that are basically:
1. Flirt;
2. Flirt but don't come on as strong;
3. Tell them to off themselves in a ditch.

Also ending scenes were a bit... underwhelming? They were short, some of my companions got only a line or two in. I'd rather have a way to talk with all of them before finishing my adventure, or typical ending slides summing up how my playthrough affected the world. Cutscenes and the finish to the story wasn't bad, but I couldn't help but feel a bit dissapointed to have a decent ending to otherwise amazing adventure I've just had over the course of 100 hours.

To sum up this random rumbling of thoughts I've had after beating the game, I feel like it's one of the best RPGs of the decade, and the flaws I've mentioned didn't outweigh the positives in the slightest from my viewpoint.

I can only hope that you will feel the same joy that I've felt while playing this- it made me feel like I was a kid back in 2002, wandering through Sword Coast, eyes gleaming with amazement while making a name for myself in this magical, adventure packed world.

The art style is unique, a bit rough on the edges but enjoyable and nothing feels alien in it, everything has that own touch to it. Sound design is good, the main OST isn't annoying or tiresome, not that great but if i listen to it for a long period of time i don't get fed up with it, while the card and attacks sound effects are good and make you feel you played that attack, you blocked that hit, etc etc.
But most importantly, the game is just a brilliant connection of a deck builder and a roguelike, it makes you adapt, rewards careful thinking, game has enough options to offer a huge variety of playstyles. It is hard. It is meant to be hard, and it is meant to be counquered. I love it, i hope you will love it too!
