Final Fantasy 4 Pixel Remaster is a remaster with graphic overhaul and quality of life improvements over the original SNES release.

The game contains the classic JRPG world, where you fly an airship anywhere, explore the world, find new enemies, towns, quests, items etc. Also have people to talk to that gives more information on the region and story.
One feature very interesting in this game is the more freedom on weapon choices. For example, with a white mage, you can equip a staff for more Spirit, healing more efficiently but doing basically no damage at all, or you can equip a bow and arrow, losing this Spirit bonus but being able to do damage. The bow does bonus damage for some flying enemies and their arrows with special effects that does bonus damage for types of enemies, like dragons with Artemis arrow, and elemental arrows. With Staffs you can have a powerful healing mage, with adequate arrows you can have a powerful damage dealing white mage. This mechanic gives the player the ability to change the playstyle in different dungeons and situations.
The dungeons are well designed, with multiple paths and treasures in the way with distinct enemies on most of them. The secret passages and items on old Final Fantasy games makes me always walk everywhere to find them.

The story is good, nothing more and nothing less. The story has a lot of old JRPG cliches, making you know what is going to happen before it even happens.
You can have a maximum of 5 party members. The party characters rotate frequently making an interesting way to make the player create new strategies the more they progress in the story. The problem is that the way the story chooses to remove a character from the party looks very forced and not very well thought out.
Another problem is that the game is very easy, taking away the strategic nature of the constant party members changing. Regular attacks are more than enough to kill most of the non-boss enemies in dungeons and overworld with a few exceptions. You don’t even need to farm for better weapons and levels for most of the fights anyway. This makes most non-boss fights not very interesting.

The remaster has an auto-battle feature which speeds the battle fight and input the previous action made. I wouldn’t use this feature when I start playing the game, but after various non-boss fights been the same, regular attacks and maybe a heal, it became necessary to auto-battle to skip the tedious fights.
Remaster features in other Final Fantasy games have not been implemented in this version, like x2 and x4 speed, no monsters encounters and, most important, the ability to skip cutscenes. The lack of cutscene skip was terrible when I was on my second playthrough and discouraged me for the next one.

TLDR: It’s a good game. Have the classic JRPG formula with a world you can explore with an airship, enemies, story, and quests. The lack of NG+ and cutscene skips create a problem when replaying the game. Also, the game is easy.
