Boring. Very slow combat, very simple bosses. Get oneshot a a few times because you dont know what the boss does then hit the boss once. Proceed to run around in the second area finding absolutely nothing.

I was told that the game is good now. I was lied to.

At every thing i do, it feels like im fighting the game itself. Its not bad enough to make me say that the game is bad, but its making it really hard to like with the myrad of issues i run into. From saving (cant save unless you call the ship to yourself enter and leave), over base building (weird snapping), to flight (can only roll with keyboard pitch and jaw by pointing the mouse... you cannot stop (!!!) or even reverse (!!!!), go sideways or up and down.) just awkard and clunky, which is to say nothing of the survival functions that get annoying fast (feels like most of my time is spent gathering stuff to refill the various constantly depleting bars and not really getting anywhere), lack of pausing in single player and other less notable problems.

Having seen how easy building can with similar systems in Satisfactory and the flight and landing controls in Elite: Dangerous... and just about every open world survival games save system i really got to wonder why NMS got to be so difficult with every single aspect here.

Its unfortunate to see that after the honestly terrible initial experience the game just continued to... low key suck. And what a experience that was. Spawn on a toxic world, my view is heavily obsured and im informed that im dying and i need to collect some ferrite ore only to be told haha no your tool is broken too sucker. I dont know about you, but maybe give newcomers to your game a safe and comfortable spawning spot where they can figure out things and get comfy by following the tutorial without the constant gunk on the sceen, warnings about health depleting and a eventual death because im stuggling with what the game wants me to do, seeing whats in front of me and struggling with controls im yet unfamiliar with.

Seeing as i have now 3 hours and thus aint eligible for a refund anymore i really reget not refunding right then and there.

Its got a gimmick in that coins make platforms and blocks appear or disappear - depending on your count. A gimmick that the game makes excellent use of, explores uses of i havent expected and in general produces level design that had me gripped about this mechanic despite me not expecting not much out of this. You can tell that this game was produced with no small amount of attention, making the most of its relatively short lenght (if you ignore the collectibles), prompting you to replay and view levels under a different context each time, planning ahead for how many coins to collect and when, especially if you do try to get the collectibles.

If you're used to pixel perfect platformers though, i've got to say that the controls here are not exactly tight - nor does the game demand such tight control of you thankfully - i've ran into odd collision boxes, slid off things i feel i shouldnt have, failed jumps i feel i should've made easily sometimes.

Despite these issues, this game has prositively surprised me and given me well worth my money, i can only advise you to look past the aesthetic if its not for you and look into exploring these mechanics yourself.

It took me a long time since buying this to find a group of friends willing to try it, but once i did... i dont think i ever had this much fun in a long time. I can only wholeheartedly reccomend this!

The art is excellent for a pixel style, the combat simple and frantic at the same time. There are a handful things that bother us and seem like they could use a balance pass (if you're getting a lead as hero and manage to buy out stores before other players can, you snowball into becoming undefeatable, some enemies are beyond annoying to deal with in a 1v1 too), but mostly the game works nicely.

Severe activation issues. Could not access this content yet.
Buy from the native store for cheaper + save yourself some hassle.

Game launches without horizons and Steam doesnt give you a key without fiddling with your options: in the options for your libary you need to select play horizons (does not work via the context menu from the taskbar). There you can copy your key, and have a rendeem button, which unfortunatively leads to a 404.

Some googling later, you actually need a different website to activate your key (www.frontierstore.com) and use your Frontier login there, but even there it doesnt let you add the key until you added a billing adress there.

That done i still couldnt figure out a way to get Horizons to activate/run, the normal play option launches without, and play horizons claims it needs a update (theres noone avaiable) and closes.

Buggy, highly unablanced game with practically no matchmaking whatsoever. Highly "free to play" as in you're free to not pay if you dont mind getting the parts you want like 12 times slower than paying users.

Lets start with the prositives.

- Building a bot is sorta fun i guess even if the editor is wholly underequipped. (no undo redo functions and such whatsoerver)

- Its a unique game where your bot breaks apart as you fight resulting in interresting situations and strategic aiming at vulnerable parts of the enemy bot.

Now to the negatives... where to start...

- Balance is complete garbage. Certain weapons are plain better than anything else (Ions) which are practically impossible to gain if you dont grind 120 hours long or buy premium. To make matters worse, they literally obsolete a whole weapon type just by existing: They got more damage per hit and per second than tesla, are more energy efficent, got more range and a ton more health than those too. But its fair and balanced according to the devs.

- Matchmaking is based on a elo system, but the elo system fails to measure invidual skill and becomes a gauge of how lucky you are with the matchmaking. Its got no qualms with matching a team completly composed of meele fighters against one composed of flying bombers. Your elo gains are independ of your performance and you gain or lose respectively exactly the same amount no matter how you did, based on wheter your team won or lost. Again, the devs see no problem with this.

- "Free to play", Premium users get double the loot, double the exp, triple the recycle. All in all, discounting the crates from login and leveling up, premium users will obtain blocks 6 times faster, which turns a insane 80 hour grind for a somewhat decent bot into a acceptable 16 hours.

- Its buggy. Thanks to memory leaks you have to restart the game every couple games or risk losing elo thanks to the games ui vanishing, desyncing or outright crashing. Even with frequent restarts you'll often get booted out of matches for "Roboshield corrupted" bugs and connection issues to the server (on their end). All of which will result in leaving penalties that stop you from playing the game for a while and elo loss. The server side handling of the game likes to crash ocassionally too.

- Its impossible to have good latency needed for a competive shooter allegedly due the game engine. This results sometimes in meele fighters killing you from across half the map and shots that you thought dodged (and clearly saw whizzing past you) hitting you regardless.

- While the building is pretty fun, building artbots requires you to buy premium for colors and building competive bots takes ages. The averange competive bot will cost 120k robits while the averange gain of a match á 15 minutes is roughly 2k robits, after accounting for the 1/16th recycle rate for normal users.

Conclusion: I cant, in good faith, reccomend this game. Especially early game where you start with useless weapons you're not gonna have any fun as the matchmaker still doesnt care and puts you together with much better equipped robots, resulting in you collecting pocket exchange beatdown after beatdown until you finally can buy some of the parts that actually matter in this game (those that cost tenthousands of robits if not hundredthousands).
