This game is incredible. I've wanted something like this ever since I started playing tabletop wargames, and while there are many games that scratch a similar itch, none do so like SOVL. This game feels exactly like playing tabletop, except much much faster as the dice rolling is automated. The fact this game is free is mind boggling to me.

I can't wait to see what new content Dalen Studios comes up with, I'll gladly buy it (I humbly request a unit editor!)

After playing this game for some more time, I can confidently say I stand by all of my original opinions in this review. I regularly can look forward to new content updates from this incredible title!

Good game

DOESNT ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ WORK SERVER DONT EXIST DO NOT BUY

I have a ridiculous amount of hours in this game. Many others reviewing have much more than I. This game is graphically excellent, has amazing ballistics calculations (when they work), and has the ability to be something truly amazing. The uniqueness of the game makes it easy to try and look past its shortcomings, but after countless terrible updates for months on end, the game is no longer something worth spending the time required to get anywhere in it. There are many reasons I cant recommend this game to a new player, whether it's the terrible economy forcing you to play vehicles you don't want, planes dominating the tank game mode, or the fact that if you aren't prepared to play this game for as many hours as I have you won't get anywhere. The game could be something amazing if it weren't smothered by a pay to play model masquerading as a free to play game.

Game is quite fun, turn based nature makes for a unique experience. Ships, while not great in variety or number, are lovely looking and quite distinct. The game could do with much better autosave, but as it allows saving at literally any time, being aware will prevent issues. I would have really wanted fleets to be able to hold more than 7 ships, as it made fleets of lighter vessels effectively worthless later on.

Very fun game. Try playing the BTA 3062 modpack, really enhances the game

Bought for like 3 bucks. Very fun game, huge improvement over Returns. Much of the core gameplay is similar or the same, but the story is top notch.

Scaling difficulty ruins the game. Completely destroys objective balance, it's like they weren't even thinking

It's just like Sanctus Reach but much better and they guys are red instead of blue. Got around 25 hours out of campaign. Looking forward to DLC

Marius update is incredible. Fixes all of the major problems with the game.
